I suspect what they mean is, it willbe a generation before the dare reform the banks ( due to the fact they would just collapse ) and hope we will all forget about what these crooks have done in the mean time. I suspect what they mean is, it willbe a generation before the dare reform the banks ( due to the fact they would just collapse ) and hope we will all forget about what these crooks have done in the mean time. they could reform it within 24 hours by taking the chinese approach to corruption....send the goons round to snatch them and their families out of their beds at dawn and put them in front of the firing squad. that way the re-offence rate is reduced considerably. would make our power-hungry yet still bear the mental scars of public school bullying politicians sit up and take notice...like...erm, no, we are not f@cking about this time. no more bribes or payoffs..if you continue as you are we will beat you up. whats more...we REALLY detest sell-outs... certainly agree with cutting off the taxpayer credit-line. when these guys get apprehended they should work off the debts they have accrued against our wishes.(that might be more effective than execution, to sell them and their progeny to the chinese to work at foxconn for 18 hours a day with a bowl of gruel) ...or maybe just their progeny, we incarcerate them in a UK jail until said debt has been paid off by their kids.gives them plenty of time to think about what they have done. A generation is about 25 years. If they'd reformed just half of the problems that caused the 1980s/90s crash in that time (as they "promised" to do at the time) then they would have been sorted by about 2005 or so and at the very least wouldn't still need to be reformed or at least not so much. But they didn't - in fact some would say that they did the exact opposite to reform and now they expect people to believe some *bull story that it'll be reformed in the next 25 years. Some hope. At best it sounds like an attempt at some sort of minor feel good factor before the general election. Most of us have to adopt within a few weeks of being given the boot, whether from a job or being asked to leave by a landlord. All to change behaviour. When it suits them they can back date it. They have done nothing, because they were complicit in the financial fraud and wrongdoing. It's interesting that despite all the scams, corruption, pain, favouritism there are no assassinations or general organised violence/vigilante action towards perpetrators or enablers (talking generally, not really about 'bankers'). Is that due to a certain societal moral underpinning, real faith in the judicial system, a fear of backfiring personal/general consequences, or simply because it implies that any and everyone of means to do these things is in effect already bought off or profiting within the same culture?
