wherebee
Read this story: http://www.canberratimes.com.au/act-news/packed-lunches-nipple-cripples-and-dvds-spark-bitter-family-court-dispute-20141121-11qkrc.html and thought it summarises an increasingly common threat to a 'normal' childhood. I have seen in my circle of friends in the UK, especially the single divorced mothers, a complete inability to contenance kids getting exposed to any risk. I wonder what effect that is going to have on them when they grow up (especially boys). Was pleased to see in the court case reported the Aussie judge had a modicum of common sense left.... libspero
I'm guilty of not taking time to read the article, but haven't kids historically always been nursed and taught by female figures? Most of my primary teachers were women. Provided the curriculum is well written and they have enough proper role models outside of school I don't see a massive issue. Most kids are smart enough to know when they are being taught crap. We all remember sex ed classes right?

libspero
Not necessarily a feminisation but there is certainly an over-protection of children at present, e.g. not allowed to play outside the garden, ferried everywhere by car, told everything is dangerous. A previous work colleague wouldn't allow her sons to play with toy guns (or even imaginary ones). Agree 100% with that. Not just kids though.. Our whole society seems in a perpetual state of paranoid risk aversion sometimes. Largely because people believe what they read in the papers though. Probably. Boys fall behind. Agree completely. This is happening across a range of child related areas - schools, activities, TV shows etc. Luckily, men have begun to understand the threat and are taking action. MrPin
I think it is pretty ovbious to anybody that has seen children, or even produced some, that boys are generally boys, and like blokey things, and girls can be a bit girly, but not always, but there you go! Just let them be what they are. Is this radical?

wherebee
I don't see how the story tallies with your contentious claim of 'feminisation'. Because the case got to court!!! That means the father had to organise (and probably pay for) a lawyer, have all the stress and disruption, etc etc. The very fact he had to defend himself - even if the end verdict was in his favour - was my point. MrPin
Feminists claim gender is a social construct. Forced gender association IS! Just let them be! I don't know any "real" feminists, BTW! Find out more about the Let Toys Be Toys campaign. I've still got stacks of my kids' Ladybird books from 30 odd years ago - everything from the First Picture Book, to verse stories of Downy Duckling and friends, to Henry VIII*and King Alfred, all in the same small Ladybird format. I don't recall a single one of them being labelled for any particular gender. At around 7 or 8 our elder read it as 'Henry Vill' - we still use that moniker for the old bugger. The Eagle
Feminists claim gender is a social construct. There is irrefutable proof that it's a biological construct. Put a naked man and a naked woman next to each other and observe the biological differences. Homosexuality on the other hand clearly seems to be a social/psychological construct. MarkG
I reckon children should be stopped from listening to men too. What do you think the Pedo Hysteria is for? Leftyism is based entirely around 'but we're all the same under the skin!' and falls apart without it. If everyone is the same, then any success or failure is due to luck, and we need the Glorious People's Central Wealth Redistribution Committee to steal money from the successful and give it to the losers. It's only fair. Once you admit that people are different in any way, Joe Fat Cat's success might just turn out to be because he's smarter than Joe Loser, and worked twenty hours a day for years to build up his company rather than sitting on the sofa eating pizza and watching porn. Then their whole intellectual rationale for institutionalized theft disappears. Which is why they'll defend this claptrap to the end. The funny part is that they're just accelerating the Muslim takeover of the UK, as Muslim kids sure as ****** won't be taught that boys and girls are just the same. If they're actually successful, native British boys will grow up as Metrosexuals dreaming of a nice dress and a doll to play with, while Muslim boys will grow up dreaming of driving around in a pickup truck with an RPG and a big knife to behead the infidels with.
