Rents Are Set To Rise Twice As Fast As Incomes....

Recommended Posts

I really do not think rents have anywhere to go but down. We have a reasonable income that most couples would be happy with but no kids, and after outgoings such as food, transport, rent, and bills there is only a modest amount left to actually spend on having a life.

It would not take a dramatic increase in bills to make working pointless, and we have relatively good jobs compared to most.

Yup I hear you there,

this is ******** where i live I am already looking and houses are down in rent compared with a year ago. When It becomes viable I will move or buy if prices keep falling too. My landlord is terrified I will move out I constantly have to allay there fears. Overpopulation? ****** off, stacks for rent by mine some been on for over a year. I go past for let signs every day on my commute. I live next to an abandoned house FFS and have yet to see a tent city outside my town as families cant find homes.

The Media just talk and talk but never match the "reality" of peoples lives. Nobody has yet explained to me where all the amazing jobs come from that are going to sustain house prices and ever increasing rents. Are sports direct suddenly going to pay everyone 50k? Most of the supermarket chains are talking of closing stores, jobs are being automated and outsourced or eliminated completely. Kids are living at home till they are 35 even amazon are trying to eliminate shit van driver jobs. Its completely fooked and only a handful of people seem to have noticed, the people on this website are some of them.

recovery? its all the way down now to some sort of total collapse and only the most stupid bell ends who are emotionally invested in believing they are rich because another bell end told them there shit house house is worth x amount. If you have no talent or intelligence and are working a shit job of course you are going to believe this ********. Anything is better than the reality of life here.

Thank god for places like this website it shows me there are still some smart people out there and all is not totally lost. You do know after it collapses itll be thinkers like you lot who have to sort it all out?

Rents can't disconnect from income like that without dumping most of the sub-35 population on housing benefit for the rest of their lives.

Trickle down economics. Get the middle to give to the bottom so the top can take it away. Better than that. They'll get the middle to blame the bottom for such a sorry state of affairs.

But the market can react - more houses can get converted into multiple studio flats so that rent is affordable.

Go HMO daddies, go!!

Can't meet that stratospheric mortgage with four tenants, try six. Six not enough? Try eight.

Rents seem to have edged up a bit around here if anything, anecdotally. I moved about 3 years ago, that entailed a 10% rent rise. Now I'm looking to move again, looks like I'd have to suck up another 10% rent rise, all for broadly comparable places. Voids seem to be pretty low judging by how quickly properties on the market get let out. I'm certainly not seeing downward pressure.

And they already seem astronomically high to me, a 1 bedroom flat is going to be out of reach to the vast majority of working stiffs here, we're talking 700 a month after bills, and the south west is not a high paying area for the most part.

Yes, when people give their anecodes, could they please specify where "round here" is. There's more likely to be rent increases in places where more people are being stuffed into it, than areas (i.e. Scotland) with much lower immigration and population growth.

So you are not only hemmed in you have to pay extra for the privilege......some people are a glutton for punishment. ;)

Good post. The narrative about rising rents just sounds like total c*ock to me to be honest.
