Bath Chronicle Letter -

DO YOUR BIT TO CHANGE BUY-TO-LET RULE

I Am glad that other Bathonians are awake to the issues involving students and their impact on our expenses. Namely Eleanor Swift (Letters, November 19) and Denis Lovelace (Letters, November 26).

I am sure that if we all lobbied our councillors and the Government en mass, the law would be changed about multiple occupation student housing and a business tax would be imposed on buy-to-let landlords. Under current legislation, they are set to increase the loss of revenue to our local council due to the current exemption in payment of any community charge.

Thus the above-inflation increases we receive every year will continue to rise.

So Bathonians, don't sit there and moan and groan but put pen to paper and get writing. Try writing to Rt Hon Tony Blair, 10 Downing Street, London and B &NES, Revenues and Benefits, PO Box 2797, Bath BA1 1WF. The more the merrier but keep writing until something happens.

MR NF BIRD

King Georges Road, Bath

gruffydd,

All happening in Bath isn't it.....

For flips sake hide those boards it might scare the locals and give them the wrong idea.:lol:

http://www.thisisbath.com/displayNode.jsp?...&folderPk=89096

.....

Business reporter ESTATE agent advertising boards have sprung up in areas of Bath where they have not been seen for years, prompting a rash of sales and calls for a council rethink.

......

That left the door open to agents to put up boards, and they say doing this has resulted in sales that would not otherwise have happened.

Personally I would love to see BTL treated as a business & not an 'activity' as it's treated now.

Did you know the NFRL has been campaigning for years to make it a business? The more public support landlords get for this move, the better.

Thing's we'll enjoy:

- The ability to write off the cost of properties we buy, therefore for most landlords no ongoing taxes that we pay now :D

- 10% CGT for business assets :D

I'm sure there's many many more.

Please be careful what you wish for won't you, you might just get it.

Great, cos I wish to win the lottery soon, buy a big yacht, moor it

in the South of France, have a couple of page 3 models rubbing

Ambre Solaire on my back and when I'm not doing that, I wish to

be playing golf with Tiger Woods. I'll teach him how to play a

proper bunker shot. :)
