Eddie_George
I wish I had the ear of a politician to explain to them the benefits of a LVT. The only one I can think of that would even listen (and has a chance of power) would be Miliband.
disenfranchised
They called it "HELP TO MOVE"?? They actually called it that! "Help to sell" is only a matter of time. *****
Ash4781
Well getting rid of estate agents would save a fair bit of moving costs. Google and Tesco were interested at one point but the lobby machine went into overdrive. Good agents would survive. It's the ones where you do the viewings, and they appear to do nothing at all except collecting their fees.

There is no law compelling you to use one. There is however a law compelling you to pay stamp duty.
smiley
Exempt OAPs from stamp duty? Sure. And while we're at it, why not also institute an extra tax on homeless people, those in debt, and those under the age of 50, and give the money to those over 60 in proportion to the number of properties they have. Those with more properties, or who have gained most from property price inflation, could get more. Or is that the same thing?

Or is that the same thing? if you read the original 'think tank' suggestion - OAPs are NOT to be exempt unless they are downsizing to a sub 250K property (oh yes to free up the 'family homes' for the under 50s!) where the stamp duty is 1% anyway so saving up to £2500 while paying in excess of £5000 to move - and of course all oaps have multiple properties and pay no tax what a shame I know lots of them who happily live in a small sub £250K property already and why would they move.
