tinker
^^^^ That's the long and short of it. It's not about what best for our youth. Feels like betrayal.
crashmonitor
Just shows you how many estate agents and mortage brokers / bank finance advisers there are out there. Would also have to include the MPC....what's the point of them.....chimps drawing straws on interest rate outcomes would have served us better. Andy D
In that respect I have a grudging admiration for Deloitte (I think it was) who have a sort of apprenticeship scheme where they put school leavers through accountancy training rather than expecting them to go to university first. Yup it's Deloitte, on of my daughter's friends is on the apprenticeship scheme, basically do paid work, get accountancy qualifications and a degree in the process and free to walk away at the end. Yes they're going to work bloody hard but they get qualifications that may be of use and no debt
Saver
My job in Bank IT is very skilled, however he is absolutely right. The last three managers I've had have had no discernable skills beyond primary level. 50 grand and it's embarrassing trying to explain anything remotely complex to them. So it's not all bad. Is it anything like this?
billybong
Is it anything like this? Many a true word is spoken in jest. In comparison Reginald Perrin's 1970s UK management was a shining example of efficiency - The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin. Now they've broadened it beyond management and into the fine detail. LiveinHope
Is it anything like this? I have walked out of more of those meetings than I care to remember - Being able to do that (walk out) is one of the advantages of renting and not being in mortgage debt. Executive Sadman
No shit Sherlock. We are now over-educating most of our kids (extending school to keep them out of the jobs market), whilst at the same time loading them up with debt and aspirations that the jobs market can never meet. Who was it who said "Education, Education. Education." ? Yep. "Education, skills and jobs" would have been a more logical thing to say. But inane repetition propaganda is generally more sucessful in a democracy.
Si1
One of the deep issues in our economy is the number of zombie companies, and therefore the impossibility of discerning corporate competence. In this way the value of education in the current economy is either impossible to discern or zero, your success being dependant on the level of govt support you enjoy rather than insight planning and competence. So you may as well employ 11 year olds for all the difference it makes.
Dorkins
Is it anything like this? Too painful, I had to stop at 4:00. I have meetings like that almost every week.
