Not Got A House By The Age Of 30? You're A Failure...

Recommended Posts

The busses round here are positively aspirational, a ride to town and back is 75pence/mile equivalent.

My motorbike costs 4.5p per mile, which is ideal for my 14 round trip commute 63p per day.

Interesting phenomenon that I think results from a psychological conflict for many on the 'traditional' path

Owning a home is considered a mark of success, from parents, in laws, and between work colleagues

Renters are therefore considered less successful - people like to feel righteous

But secretly, those in large debt envy those who rent (and have freedom), which breeds jealousy, so renters are vilified.

It's hard to kick against the pricks

bought when I was near about 40, paid off mortgage in 4 years and the grand sum of 5000 pounds by way of interest and fees.. I must be one of the bigger failures than the aspirational masses under the bankers yoke for a lifetime of debt slavery .. Ahh well..

What he said. Too busy having fun through much of 20s and 30s. Married at 39, bought first house at 40, first car at 42. Now at 44 we're mortgage free and no car debt. What a loser I am. I won't comment on Mrs FreeFall though - she won't let me.

I was about 30 when I got my current place, a very elegant Victorian house with garden in a town centre, in top original condition.

The rent is pretty low and the landlord works hard to keep it that way for me! Life is good...

Reminds me of that old saying if you are seen on a bus over 30 you are a failure, the windows are made big to add to the humiliation; that was in the era when it was taken for granted you had a house. Well I do use buses occasionally.

And 100% of the teenagers they surveyed cant imagine possibly being that old either.

It'll come to them soon enough and if things don't change soon they don't have a snowball in hells chance. Wonder if they'll change their tune then.

This ^ it is not so much whether you rent or not....it is who you rent from, like who you buy from and when you buy. ;)

If you struggle to sell 30 houses a year, you are a failure....as an EA  The only way todays young are going to own by thirty is if there is a very big crash. Of course in VI speak "owning" means "owing", so it should be, "If you are not in deep servitude to a bank by the time you are thirty, the VI`s will try to say that you failed" Are todays young waking up, or are they as soft in the head as the Bubble Generation of the Noughties?

Someone was peddling debt for 1.5%.....any takers?

It is no longer the cost of the debt....it is the immense amount you need to borrow to buy a trolley full of crap.... ;)

I seem to recall our Australian ponzi in chief Bardon (who I recall was a pleasant chap, given that I had generally opposing views to him re housing debt) said much the same

Then he apparently went bankrupt

Seeing as the average age of FTBers is supposed to be late 30s then most every young person is a failure.

What tosh.

The failures are those claiming to be running the country.

It won't be long before the papers are persuading women to hand out white feathers to men, too cowardly to do the right thing, get on with their lives and get on the housing ladder.
