Syrian opposition to discuss Russian peace plan

The main Western-backed Syrian opposition group opened a three-day meeting Friday to discuss a range of issues, including a Russian initiative to hold peace talks in Moscow to broker a resolution to Syria's civil war. The meeting comes amid a push by Russia, a key supporter of President Bashar Assad, to try to bring the Syrian government and the opposition together in Moscow for talks to end a civil war.

Gazprom warns EU to link to Turkey pipeline or lose Russian gas

Russia's Gazprom giant on Wednesday urged the European Union to link up to its planned energy pipeline to Turkey or lose the gas that now transits Ukraine.

I notice you don't mention the 1 million killed in Iraq by your Yank paymasters. Russia lead the opposition to the 2003 war at the UN in the face of the liar Colin Powell and his 45 minute nonsense.

you know there was a civil war Shia vs Sunnis; caused by Saddam the Butcher iron fist rule of 30 years ...

it looks like Putler's and your only policy is to support dictators so you can sell them arms ...

Lol at the EU - 'waaaaa! It isn't fair, we don't operate like this. Waaaaaa!'.

As Russia says, it will 'deliver the fuel to Turkey’s border with Greece and “it’s up to the EU to decide what to do” with it. lol. Russian Energy Minister Novak added that "the decision has been made, we are diversifying and eliminating the risks of unreliable countries that caused problems in past years, including for European consumers.

In other words, the EU just lost it all and so did the Ukraine.

Are you serious? The civil war was a direct result of the US invasion. There was no civil war before 2003. Have you been asleep for the past decade?

Saddam was installed by the CIA. When he stepped out of line over Kuwait they got rid of him.

The US is the world's leading supporter of terrorist states and dictators in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait etc who created ISIS and are recipients of vast amounts of US weapons.

And I thought that the civil war was caused by the iron fist style rule of Saddam; who was called Butcher by local Shia and Kurds (80% of population) ...

Perhaps you should tell Shia and Kurds to their faces, how Saddam was a good guy and they should not execute him ...

As I said, who put Saddam in power? The CIA, who therefore are directly responsible for his actions. As the many other dictators they support e.g. Saudi, Qatar, Kuwait. Maybe you support them too as the Yanks are silent on their crimes.

Gas transit fees were at one time around a fifth of Ukraine's foreign currency earnings.

As far as I can see, its economy will need billions in life support for years to come.

Russia to Build 10 Arctic Airfields by 2016

According to a recent report by IHS Jane’s 360 based on official Russian sources, Russia is looking to have 14 operational airfields in the Arctic by the end of the year. Currently, Russia uses and operates four airfields. According to Russian Deputy Defense Minister Dmitry Bulgakov, an additional ten will be in place by the end of 2015, helping the Russian state better monitor and enforce its Arctic claims. Russia is a major Arctic country — the largest by population. Out of the Arctic’s total population of 4 million, up to 2 million live in Arctic Russia.

Russia, perhaps more so than any other state, is best prepared militarily for operations in the Arctic region. Indeed, as Jane’s notes, “NATO recently warned that no other country has better prepared its forces for operations in the region.”

More Isolation? Russia, China To Build $240 Billion High-Speed Rail Link

The ongoing 'isolation' of Russia took another turn for the un-isolated-er today when, as Bloomberg reports, China will build a 7,000-kilometer (4,350-mile) high-speed rail link from Beijing to Moscow, at a cost of 1.5 trillion yuan ($242 billion), Beijing’s city government said. The rail-link - which will bring travel time between Beijing and Moscow down from 5 days to 30 hours - signals a 10-year partnership between the two nations and follows the dropping of the French company, Alstom, from the project.

Nice try, Errol! Especially the one with North Korea ...:lol::lol:

But let me share with you what is the core issue with Putler's economy:

http://www.nytimes.com/2014/12/19/opinion/paul-krugman-putins-bubble-bursts.html?_r=0

Putin’s Russia is an extreme version of crony capitalism, indeed, a kleptocracy in which loyalists get to skim off vast sums for their personal use. It all looked sustainable as long as oil prices stayed high. But now the bubble has burst, and the very corruption that sustained the Putin regime has left Russia in dire straits.

Putler the Greatest Strategist ever; even his friends are running away; time to invade ...

http://www.kyivpost.com/content/russia-and-former-soviet-union/belarus-to-de-russify-schools-and-ready-to-defend-from-unmarked-troops-378504.html

Belarus has begun the process of "de-Russification" in schools and throughout the nation, local news website BelNovosti informs on Jan. 26. The move by the nation of 10 million people -- tightly controlled by President Alexander Lukashenko -- is signal that Belarus may be trying to distance itself politically from Russia.

Belarus Education Minister Mikhail Zhuravkov has said that, considering the large number of Russian-speaking citizens in the country, the process would be gradual. At the first stage, it includes the teaching of such two subjects -- the history and geography of Belarus -- only in the Belarusian language.

Russia should not be afraid on NATO. But rather of Putler the Invader:

Russia downgraded by Standard & Poor's to below investment grade for the first time in a decade

Standard and Poor's rating agency has downgraded Russia's credit rating to junk level with a negative outlook.

The 26 January rating downgrade is the latest blow to the Russian economy, which is suffering from falling global oil prices and the negative effects of international sanctions imposed on Moscow over Russian intervention in Ukraine.

Gazprom gets highest investment grade from China’s biggest ratings agency

China’s Dagong rating agency has given Russia’s Gazprom the highest AAA credit rating with a long-term stable outlook. It says US and EU sanctions won’t have a substantial effect on the creditworthiness of the world’s largest gas producer. "Obtaining such a credit rating by Dagong will further expand the base of investors from the Asia-Pacific region in debt instruments of Gazprom, including pension funds, insurance companies, investment funds and banks, as well as increasing the loyalty of Asian investors in the company," Gazprom said in a statement.
