Russian reserves are currently at around $450 billion. What reserves do the EU nations have? Or the US (which has $18 trillion of debt lol)?

And that doesn't include the vast natural resources, more than 80% of all fresh water on the planet (Baikal), most of the palladium etc etc.

Putler, the Greatest Strategist ever. Perhaps letting a single man with exKGB mind to make all strategic decisions does not work well long term ???

http://www.telegraph...sion-looms.html

Russian government borrowing costs have soared to their highest levels in five years, as the country faces recession. Measured by the yields on the state’s 10-year bonds, the cost of borrowing breached the 12pc level on Friday, as falling oil prices and economic sanctions have taken their toll on the economy. The spike will increase the burden of servicing government borrowing, as lower oil prices have made it unlikely that Vladimir Putin, the country’s President, will be able to balance the books. Anton Siluanov, Russia's economic minister, said last week that the combined cost of sanctions and weakening oil was costing Russia $140bn (£90bn) a year. The government has also admitted that a recession in early 2015 is likely.

They have all these natural resources, but with the evil of money, they wind up with a debt of pieces of paper and the banks wont accept real things to settle....until the end, when that IS what they take.

Sure, EU is going to collapse tomorrow, 100% guaranteed ... shame that Russia economy is collapsing as we speak ...

Earning 40% less in one year. I am sure that Russians "love" Putler even more. Oh no, it is the West fault ...

It looks like it is actually better for a country to do not have any natural resources. Like South Korea or Singapore. It looks like freebies make you actually worse off ...

But only if some moronic deighbor does not want to invade you with little green men in balaclavas ...:ph34r::ph34r:

Lake Baikal is the freshwater lake with greatest volume in the world, containing roughly 20% of the world's unfrozen surface fresh water,

This gets it about right... on a recent visit to "the east" couldn't help feeling people were living in a WW2 timewarp. We should never have let E bloc countries into EU until they'd matured politically, in my mind. We don't want confrontation with Russia. We don't want war with Russia. Leave us out of it! http://www.ronpaulinstitute.org/archives/featured-articles/2014/december/04/reckless-congress-declares-war-on-russia/

Letting Eastern Europe to Hitler and Stalin did not avoid war with the West. It actually made it worse. It is not going to work with Putler either ... I thought that this historical lesson was quite clear ???

Hoorah! Damik the CIA stooge is here! Damik - the one who hates the Russian people and would love nothing better than for a thermal nuclear war to wipe out Russia. Personally, I find Damik's witherings to be vomit inducing.

I do not hate Russian people. I hate Putler. I do not hate Iraqies. I hated Saddam. Germans/Nazis. Russians/Soviets. Same principle ... different dictators ...

On the bright side please share with us, why 150+ millions of Russians deserve Putler to "run them" from 1999 for at least another 10 years? Perhaps they would like to try somebody else in charge? Perhaps they are tired of this little old man ???

I do not think that Russians really want to let paranoid to run their country:

I'm saying the east needs to grow up and move on... WW2 is over - Stalin is no longer in charge... get together and sort things out peacefully. Your reference to "Putler" says it all... if people do want to focus on the atrocities of the past, the Ukraine was hardly a paragon of virtue during WW2 - the SS, treatment of Poles, Jews, etc. Bulgaria was one of the few places which came out with honour re: Jews (not persecuting them!) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ukrainian_collaborationism_with_the_Axis_powers

East is moving quite fine, including Ukraine. Thanks to Germany and EU! We are free again!

Just Putler (the pathetic old man, who wants to be in power from 1999 forever) attacked innocent Ukrainians. And he threatens now rest of the Eastern Europe. As he can not afford to have any political opposition in Mother Russia. Simple as that ...

Unfortunately for the West Europe, there will be a new war if they do not help us to defeat the Putler's evil ...

Moscow could build up to 25 nuclear units in India

"Russia expects to secure the role of a reliable energy supplier to the Asian markets,” said Putin on Tuesday. “Russia could start deliveries of liquefied natural gas to India under Gazprom-GAIL deal as early as in 2017,” he added.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold talks with President Vladimir Putin on Thursday in New Delhi. The two sides are expected to ink two key Siberian energy deals among other bilateral agreements.

“We attach particular importance to the development of military and technical cooperation that is one of the main components of our strategic partnership. We will discuss in detail the current projects in this most important sphere,” Putin added.

Russia, India ink raft of deals including Crimea trade push

Even as the European Union is considering widening its ban on investment in Crimea, Russia and India on Thursday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to boost trade between India and the Crimean region during President Putin’s New Delhi visit.

The agreement was signed by Crimean Prime Minister Sergei Aksyonov and Gul Kripalani, chairman of the Indian-Crimean Partnership. The Kremlin has received support from both New Delhi and Beijing in the face of western sanctions over Russia’s annexation of Crimea.

Russian President Vladimir Putin met Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday in the Indian capital where the two sides inked crucial energy deals, including Rosneft’s 10-year oil delivery contract of 10 million tons per year with India.

We have a strategic partnership that is incomparable. Russia our foremost defence partner since decades,” said Modi at a joint press conference following talks with Putin.

When did you suddenly develop a soft spot Damik?

Having followed your activities in the other related threads I've never once seen you express the slightest concern about the people in East Ukraine.

Your main interest seems to lie squarely in talking down Russia/Putin.

Which is fine if that's your view.. but spare us the bleeding heart routine

Russia's Alternative to SWIFT Would Cause Big Problems for the West

A few weeks ago, Russia announced its intention to launch an alternative to SWIFT by May 2015. Russia’s new interbank system would dominate transactions in rubles, with conversion to and from U.S. dollars at either end.

For example, an Iranian government agency could use dollars to buy rubles, transmit them via the Russian system, and have them paid to a supplier in Europe who then converted them back to dollars.

Short of hacking into the Russian system, the U.S. would have no way of knowing who was paying what to whom or for what reason.

I'm sure Euros will suit Russia fine. Gold will also be fine. Dollars will be fine as well - Russia can then use them to buy gold!

3rd Russian Borei-class nuclear sub raises its colors

Russia’s third Borei-class nuclear-powered submarine Vladimir Monomakh has officially become part of the Russian Navy. Armed with Bulava ballistic missiles, the SSBNs of this class are the planet’s most advanced nuclear deterrence tool.

The primary weapon of the Borei SSBNs is the Bulava SLBM (Submarine Launched Ballistic Missile, SS-NX-30 by NATO designation) solid fuel missile with well over a 9,000 kilometer firing range capability. Bulava’s payload is 6 to 10 hypersonic, individually guided, maneuverable nuclear warheads with a yield of 100 to 150 kilotons each.
