As I pointed out on the Black thread the news was far from black yesterday, the DOW went in to orbit and Russia's fight back was one more reason for general global economic relief.

We had blacker than black Monday and Tuesday and then a handbrake turn on Wednesday...who knows what the rest of the week will throw up.

Putin sounds unhinged from the main quotes so far. "Sanctions are retaliation for Russia's attempt to survive as a nation and a civilization." "They will always try to put the bear on a chain."

spin it another way....the man actually has an opinion and stands for something...hard for Western ears to hear this...the last person in power who had opinions that I can recall was "the BEAST of Bolsova".

Nothing is ever Putler's fault or mistake. It is always the external enemy, ala Orwell's "1984" ..

He's absolutely spot on. There is a struggle for surpremcy going on world-wide at the moment, and there has been for some time. Russia is openly challenging the American hegemonic position along with the BRICS. Putin is seen as a leader of this break away and has been targetted as such (hence the absurd media attacks - which we have had confirmed from several German sources as being CIA coordinated).

America wants a non-sovereign Russia that tows the Dollar system line. It would really like to see Russia broken up into little pieces.

More than anything else the last few years have been about America trying to preserve its position. It's losing the battle, with dollar use slowly fading away, and numerous countries buying gold hand over fist for unspecified reasons.

He is not a politician. There is no political oposition left in Russia. His job is very easy: oppress all oposition and media and give people only one option.

However all dictatorships are inherently unstable:

Not aware that Mr Skinner was ever in power.

If you want opinions like that then the last person I can think of in power left office in 1945.

Edit: maybe 1953.

Im not saying I agreed with him, but he certainly stood for something...another one was Ken Livingstone in the early years, a hateful lefty IIRC, even had a campaign to make him seem nice with his love of Newts.

Red Ken, another "useful idiot" working for dictators, who opress their own people:

Cuba an inspiration to the world, says Mayor of London

http://www.hrw.org/world-report/2014/country-chapters/cuba

In 2010 and 2011, Cuba’s government released dozens of political prisoners on condition they accept exile in exchange for freedom. Since then, it has relied less on long-term prison sentences to punish dissent and has relaxed draconian travel restrictions that divided families and prevented its critics from leaving and returning to the island.

Agreed, don't agree with Adolph and Joseph but they certainly stood for something.

not all people stand for bad things. Its as if having a view that is discernable to the other side is somehow evil....of course, thats how the opposition will portray it...our politicians dont even seem to have the ability to oppose for fear of upsetting a voter.

My grand mother told me that Adolph was quite charismatic and popular till about 1943. One of the popular theme was that he built new highways and gave work to a common man ... also if you named your boy Adolph (or Herman) you would get 100 Deutsche Marks; probably as recognition of building Third Reich ...

And this is my popular story about Joseph:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pavlik_Morozov

Pavel Trofimovich Morozov (Russian: Па́вел Трофи́мович Моро́зов; November 14, 1918 – September 3, 1932), better known by the diminutive Pavlik, was a Soviet youth praised by the Soviet press as a martyr. His story, dated to 1932, is that of a 13-year old boy who denounced his father to the authorities and was in turn killed by his family. His story was a subject of reading, songs, plays, a symphonic poem, a full-length opera and six biographies.

Russian democracy at its best:

http://sputniknews.com/russia/20141218/1015977571.html

MOSCOW, December 18 (Sputnik) – Russian President Vladimir Putin said there is a fine line between the political opposition and the so-called fifth column in that the latter operates in the interests of a foreign government.

“The fine line between the opposition and the ‘fifth column’ is internal and it’s difficult to notice from the outside…An opposition figure, even if he’s very harsh, in the end he fights for the interests of his motherland, but the ‘fifth column’ represents people who fulfill what is dictated to them in the interests of another government and they are used as an instrument to reach political goals that are foreign to us,” Putin said.

And it looks like that it is the Putler the Invader, who decides the difference ...:ph34r::ph34r:

The EU imposed additional sanctions Thursday on Crimea, banning all investment and restricting trade to force home the message the bloc will not recognise Russia's "illegal annexation" of Ukraine territory. "The annexation is illegal and what we are doing is part of the non-recognition" policy, European Commission spokeswoman Maja Kocijancic said, calling on Russia to help end the Ukraine crisis which has cost more than 4,600 lives since Moscow seized Crimea in March.
