Van Persie: Manchester United squad held crunch talks after Leicester defeat
The Dutchman has explained that the mistakes made in the 5-3 loss at the King Power Stadium were pored over in an hour-long meeting.

Robin van Persie has revealed that the Manchester United squad held an hour-long inquest into their defeat at Leicester.

The Reds surrendered a two-goal lead to the newly promoted Foxes as they lost 5-3 at the King Power Stadium last weekend, extending their poor start to the season in the process.

And Van Persie says that crunch talks were held after the game to look into the reasons for the collapse.

"It shouldn't be possible [to lose like we did]," the Dutchman told Fox Sports News. "But it still happened. We have to deal with it.

"We had a proper look at it next day. Sometimes it was a bit confronting and it was a long meeting. One hour [or] something.

"We went from there, started again this week [and have put] a couple of really good sessions in. Everyone feels ready to face West Ham."

"When you look at the defensive mistakes, it starts somewhere else," he added.

"That's where we looked at as well. It's not just the one mistake which happens. There's a mistake before the mistake and before the mistake, maybe positional wise. That's where we looked at.

"Everyone knows where we have to improve."

It's just so clear now.

They don't actually need any defenders they just need to stop making mistakes.

The secret of total football is suddenly revealed.

Frankly, Evans, Jones, Smalling and Blackett isn't much of a loss anyway.

Harsh on Blackett.

He's playing Tom Thorpe and Paddy McNair in the squad so likely 1 of them alongside Rojo with Shaw at LB.

Great opportunity for them.

Blind in front.

At least Man Utd are entertaining to watch again. Under Moyes it was just terrible. Really tedious.

Di Maria is a genius and worth the entry fee by himself.

Harsh on Blackett.

Not seen him play so maybe, but he struggled to make an impression with 2 very poor championship sides last season so I seriously doubt he's up to PL level, he's still young so maybe he'll improve.

Of the rest Jones is probably the only one who should be anywhere near the first team although he's lost 3 years of his carrer being played out of position or not at all and needs to improve. Smalling is in a similar boat to Jones but has lost 4 1/2 years and Evans is cover at best.

Min 2 first team standard players required IMO.

They need to replace Scholes, and also get one top quality Central defender (think at least £20-30 million).

Several clubs (inc. Man Yoo and Arsenal) were trying to get a centre back during the summer...trouble is, is that there aren't many decent ones about..

Given that every team has to have two, there must be a heck of a lot of "average" journeymen centre backs out there picking up £70K per week for not being good enough to cross anybody else's radar.

Is the likes of David Luiz worth £50m...no, i'd say not...what certain managers do, is to either get a holding midfielder who can play that role, or they get a left or right back to "fill in"... It'll be interesting to see what Chelsea do when John Terry retires..

The joke that turned up midweek was amusing : India spends £60 million and manages to get a spacecraft to reach Mars and even go into orbit; Man U spend £200 million and cannot even reach the top half of the league..

Potential starting line-up doesn't look too bad considering. I think Van Gaal will start Rooney over Mata as he's more defensive. I reckon United will win by 2 clear goals.

----------De Gea----------
Rafael--Thorpe--Rojo--Shaw
-----------Blind------------
----Herrera----Di Maria----
----------Rooney-----------
--------RVP----Falcao------

I've bet £25 on West Ham beating Man U, 7/1.

Its always worth a bet on Manchester United losing at home against the smaller sides if you can get those sort of odds and bet on United to lose against any of the bottom 14 sides then you will make your money back after just 2 defeats. I once put £10 Fulham to beat United at 15-0 and cashed out in play for £70 when Fulham went 1-0 up.

With that defence, are you joking?
