Uk Retail Sales Boosted By Vacuum Cleaner Sales

Recommended Posts

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-29251692

UK retail sales rose by 0.4% during August, official figures have shown, helped by sales of high-powered vacuum cleaners ahead of new EU regulations.

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) also said sales were up 3.9% compared with the same month last year.

Demand for household goods - notably furniture and electrical goods - was behind the rise in sales, the ONS said.

It also said that prices in stores fell over the year, with food prices seeing their first decline since 2004.

Average store prices in August were down 1.2% from a year ago, the ONS said, the largest annual fall since July 2009.

The continuing price war between supermarkets meant that prices at food stores were down 0.1%, the first annual fall in this sector since December 2004.

So the plan now to boost sales is to tell people x,y,z will be banned???

Unseasonably warm September may feed into future CPI's depending on clothing retailer stock control and production Need to discount. Probably already reflected in the share prices of relevant retailers.

John Lewis have come in with some poor weekly trading numbers off the back of the warmer weather. Will be interesting if the warm weather holds whether there will be widespread discounting

What's wrong with a dustpan and brush?......Seriously, banning things, changing things thus making them obsolete, a built in timed breakdown or seeing to it things can no longer be repaid because of lack of spare parts or sealed and soldered units will keep sales ticking over....now where did I put that broom and duster? ;)

I simply don't believe these figures retailing electricals is about one of the toughest markets going at the moment and so dependent on house moves.
