sPinwheel
Not saying that the current economic conditions haven't tipped Rileys over the edge, but I was always surprised they hadn't gone out of business sooner. The snooker club business was always a bubble of sorts, back when snooker was on TV more than a lot of other sports and the culture was a bit different. It burst back in the '90's IMO, I think mostly due to its faltering popularity as a spectator sport after Sky started showing the Premier League football. It has slowly deflated since then. How many snooker clubs does a small-medium size town need? One.
Orsino
They thought they were through on green, but they hit the brown instead.
Lambie
actually a bit sad about this one. Happy memories of being very, very drunk at 4am playing pool. Alas they started to vigorously impose bar times and enthusiastically embraced the smoking ban, and nobody ever went back. Surprised they carried on this long, the Manchester Rileys got turned into a strip club years ago.

200p
They thought they were through on green, but they hit the brown instead. What, there is a joke about aiming for the pink, but sinking the brown in stead...
MattW
Maybe Rileys will chalk this problem up to experience. EDIT: D'oh! The Count beat me to that comment in post #11. Edited September 15, 2014 by MattW

How many snooker clubs does a small-medium size town need? They used to pimp for business at university freshers fayres. I think the SU got kickbacks or something. I signed up. Went once, found even with membership it was still more expensive than the pubs. Never went again. That and the staff were rude.
Saving For a Space Ship
I'm reminded of the old "Steve Davis and the groupie" joke, where he can't decide whether to go for the easy pink or the tight brown. Whatever Steve decides, Rileys are F...k.d Edited September 16, 2014 by Saving For a Space Ship
