950K asking in January 2013. Today's asking price - 495K.

You know what - IMPO I think 495K asking is still way, way too much.

I notice that the original description included 'Escape to the Gower' - judging by all the stories I am hearing of couples struggling to pay their mortgages and/or desperate to sell up perhaps the reality is actually of loads of people trying to escape FROM Gower?

What happened to the other 3 bedrooms?

What happened to the other 3 bedrooms?

I don't know. I am too busy looking at the 3 normous looking farm sheds at the rear? Cow sheds? Pig sheds? Sheep sheds? I wonder if there is a nice rustic ambience in the area?

What do you think - a farmer who built on a bit of his land and made a nice profit some time in the past?

Are those other buildings another 3 bedrooms so the price dropped when they were excluded?

If it's anything like the rural area I grew up in and still visit from time to time, the bungalow was built to accommodate an older farmer when he retired and one of his children took over the farm and used the farmhouse as a family home.

The bungalow is now (or has been at some point in the past) not required, because the retired farmer (and spouse, possibly) died or moved to a residential home, and the present farmer won't want it because he/she has sold the farm (land and/or house) or his/her offspring don't want to take over. That's the sort of thing I've seen happen several times around my native square mile.

That was my thought.

Farmers on the Gower have been doing very well for many years now building a 'family' home on a bit of land - that way they get planning permission - and then once X years have passed they sell it for a handsome profit. Some would say lotto winning style profit.

Joe Public trying to get permission to build land on Gower - or on the too numerous national parks in Wales - is virtualy impossible which only makes owning such land a goldmine for farmers.

"Bettis Meadow enjoys a delightful elevated setting in the hamlet of Slade that lies between the larger villages of.."

There's a house next door, run as a holiday cottage business, bang next door, which is also up for sale. Click the steetview, holiday cottage down the lane, followed by this house (Betty's Medow on the wallplate outside - but looks identical on the streetview to me). Seems like holiday retreaters arriving at the holiday cottage on the streetview.

Maybe the original listing was for both properties?
