Cardiff City Centre Turned Into Concentration Camp For Nato Summit

Recommended Posts

People in Cardiff and Newport are getting mightily sick at the conversion of their cities into steel-surrounded forces. Traffic delays began a few weeks back and have increased as more and more steel fences have gone up.

I have heard talk of body scanners being deployed - you know, the porno ones that cause cancer at American airports - but have no hard evidence for that.

The local prison is being emptied, to provide space for the demonstrators they intend to arrest.

And former Nu Liebour minister Kim Howells has warned that there is likely to be an Islamist attack. Of course, that w anker should know - he helped set up ISIS by voting for the invasion of Iraq back in 2003.

Lockdown in Cardiff: City turned into high security 'prison' with 10 mile 'ring of steel' ahead of Nato conference
  • 150 world leaders including Barack Obama and David Cameron will meet in South Wales on September 4 and 5
  • Kim Howells, former foreign office minister, fears that home grown Islamic State terrorists could be planning to attack
  • More than 9,000 officers from across the UK have been drafted in to police event and traffic disruptions are likely
  • Police have erected nine feet high security fencing around Celtic Manor resort in Newport and Cardiff city centre
  • he total cost for security is not yet known and is expected to be published after the summit by the Government

Cardiff city centre has been turned into a high security ‘prison’ with 10 miles of fencing - which is being dubbed the ‘ring of steel’ - ahead of the Nato conference next week.

Police have erected the nine feet high security fencing around Celtic Manor resort in Newport where Barack Obama, David Cameron and other world leaders will meet in Wales on September 4 and 5, as well as the city centre.

It comes as former foreign office minister, Kim Howells, issued fears that home grown Islamic State terrorists could be planning to attack the 2014 summit.

He said: 'It will be a target, there is no question about it, that is why the security measures taken are so intense.

'With a Nato summit there is going to be a raised expectation or raised awareness that there might be an attack - that is why all the special measures have been taken.’

More than 9,000 officers from across the UK have been drafted in to police the event, which will be attended by 150 heads of state along with thousands of support staff and journalists.

But with eight miles of fencing surrounding the Newport resort and three miles in and around Cardiff city centre, Gwent Police are preparing for traffic disruptions.

Why don't they just hold it on an island somewhere rather than creating an island of exclusion in a city somewhere?

Because it is an honour that so many men of vision - like Barack Hussein Obama - should visit Cardiff and Newport (at least that's what the local politicians are saying).

I think concentration camp is way, way too strong and such a wrong choice of words. I actually think it is offensive to compare a vibrant city centre shopping centre with a concentration camp.

I think concentration camp is exactly the right word, and as for Cardiff being vibrant (horrid, property developer word), whatever vibrancy it had has been lost among the steel fences, steel gates, razor wire and body searches, not to mention the dangers posed by letting hundreds of criminals out of Cardiff prison because they need the space.

I think the income for local businesses will suffer a severe fall as regular shoppers and tourists avoid the area.

A minor surgeries unit a few miles out of town at Barry has also been closed, so that staff can attend some facility in Cardiff itself.

This is your future - a boot stamping on your human face forever.

Is this what liberty looks like?

Even Hitler travelled around in an open car, it says a lot about the fear the elites have over the democratic populace when they have to resort to this. Something is deeply wrong.

Utterly ridiculous.

I've been reading John Grigg's fourth volume on Lloyd George - 1916-18, and the PM simply motored down to London from Criccieth with a few friends at the time the Germans were launching a massive offensive on the western front.

I watched a programme about this with Hitler only this week - apparently the open car driving around stopped after Heydrich was killed and he began to go nearly everywhere in heavily armed convoys.

After Heydrich he either flew or went by a specially armoured train - which had hundreds of troops aboard - which was followed by another train full of hundreds of troops.... all specially chosen to protect their leader.

every way

The people of Cardiff and the local businesses, not to mention all those who work in Cardiff, do not think it's worth a p1sspot. Thye have had to put up with disruption for nigh-on three weeks now and they are not impressed by the argument that it is an honour to have Barack Obummer visit the city. And nor are the Cardiff businesses which are losing business and revenue all that pleased.

The fact they have chosen to come in and fence off sections of the city for their exclusive use, in such an aesthetically brutal way, should make it quite clear that they're really not that interested in the views of the peasants. Looks like a "know your place" kind of statement to me.
