To say I am angry is an understatement.

"The Home Repairs Assistance Grant is available to homeowners aged 60 and over ( aka BOOMERS ) who are in receipt of a means-tested benefit, or lowincome families in receipt of a means-tested benefit."

Contact the Care and Repair team on 01327 871100, email careandrepair@daventrydc.gov.uk or visit www.daventrydc.gov.uk/living/housing/care-and-repair

I suggest people complain.

The modus operandi is to give those that can't work money to pay the people who can work and want work money......thus the public debt continues to grow. ;)

Calmed down now. I wonder who decides who gets the grants at the council.

If this was a private sector advertisement, "£5,000 money off / solar energy grant" I'd be thinking there is some catch - massively overvalued in first instance... but I can't see Local Gov being that crafty.

Care and repair is a service funded by us, Daventry District Council, Northamptonshire County Council, Northamptonshire Primary care Trust, and the government. Care and repair can visit you at home to give you professional advice about what work you need, what grants are available, and finding reliable tradesmen. They can even arrange for the work to be done, or put together drawings or specifications for you....Care and repair also offers a handyperson service if you are over 60 or disabled, to help with smaller jobs. The handyperson service costs £15 an hour (minimum charge £15) plus the cost of any materials. Contact care and repair for more information.

do keep up - it is only available to over 60s IN RECEIPT OF A MEANS TESTED BENEFIT i.e. pension credit (given to those who have made no provision for their retirement) or the under 60s on low income.

I do agree it is unfair but it is not because of the age thing - it would be more correct to say that it is available to those on a low income (families or over 60s it matters not one jot)

A decade is too long. If you cannot afford to repair your house you cannot afford to run it.

What's next? Helping them run old has guzzlers because they're old and on Benny's?

They should sell up, to someone that needs the house and has the cash. Not be subsidised to stay in family sized housing that is falling down around them as they won't give it away.

This crap is out of control now, boomers are the real entitlement benefits villains.

Yes, it's any 'homeowners' in receipt of means tested benefits - as if SMI wasn't bad enough on its own.

Some councils offer a redecoration service if you're over 60 and have lived in a councip house a long time. Obviously not aimed at home owners but still a bit of a kick in the teeth to younger people.

aka socialism.

Socialism is a post-commodity economic system, meaning that production is carried out to directly produce use-value (to directly satisfy human needs, or economic demands) as opposed to being produced with a view to generating a profit. The stage in which the accumulation of capital was viable and effective is rendered insufficient at the socialist stage of social and economic development, leading to a situation where production is carried out independently of capital accumulation in a supposedly planned fashion.

Go long pocket mattresses and burglary could start booming.

All these means tested payments and so little return on money in the bank. It's so yesterday, letting it be seen that you have provided for yourself.

Just think how much theyd have been given without these vast "cuts" the government has overseen.

But as the recession is over and the economy is fixed, we can obviously afford such essentials.

You can be sure this crap will be gone within a decade ...

... as the scapegoat generation pass 60. :o

I dont know who the scapegoat gen is but the issue is with the ongoing support of job offshoring, mass immigration, false inflation accounting, massive support for the banking cartel and a government up to its neck in self interest as property price VI's. As a tail end boomer, I and wife have lost both careers, pensions etc etc under this ongoing regime (regardless of who is in power) and at some point will probably need state support, though not through laziness or choice, just like many of those at or aproaching retirment who loose their jobs up to 2 decades before they should, never mind illness and other black swans.

Until the young collectivise and make both real and verbal protests , ie house buying strike, big noise and protests re immigration and offshoring etc then they will get more of the same.

Remember when Labia was in power? everyone around here thought that voting tory, a brand new genX government on the opposite side of politics (ostensibly) would be saviour to end the maddness, unfortunetly they are doing the same but on steroids.

the issue of some support for housing problems for those on benefits is is a moot point vs the big picture(and in comparison to bankers bonuses in state sponsored banks).

In a decade it will be the same but with gen Y sticking its d&*K in the self interest soup.

Failing people and the government growing and putting the people first. that is all ages and backgrounds (which they wont) then you had better hope that this 'crap' is not gone.

I dont know who the scapegoat gen is ...

The young end of those who Willetts lumped in as 'boomers'. Specifically those born later than the catastrophic cut-off date for a wide range of privileges, April 5th 1960.

Not those who played on those 50s streets, rocked and protested in the 60s, struggled in the 70s before becoming 80s yuppies. Rather those born in the 60s and constantly in the shadow of those we thought of as Boomers before Willetts decreed us as boomers too.

Scapegoats, because by lumping us in as "boomers" we became a target for resentment from some younger folks, while at the same time being young enough to have the privileges of today's older generation withdrawn in front of us. A masterly stroke by Willetts to deflect, if not the resentment then at least the repercussions, from his own generation.

Was watching that ITV show on The Dales presented by Ade Edmundson, and the boomers even have 'a little white bus' provided. Many don't look as though they are short of a bob or two. indeed one exclaimed, "we belong to a theatre club and we usually all go in our cars. Now we can take 'the little white bus.'

No one thinks there might be something wrong with this.

What the f**k?!

It wouldn't be so bad if it was for over 60s tenants whose rented homes were needing repair. But homeowners? Typically in cases house repairs become unaffordable homeowners would sell up, buy a cheaper, well maintained home or rent.

What about younger parents on low incomes struggling to give their children a balance diet?

It's now getting pretty obvious that Anyone that is not a boomer is going to be treated as a second class citizen by the state.

The title of the article is IMO deliberately misleading as is the title of this thread. The grants offered are for those on means tested benefits both over 60 and under 60 and in any case, the majority of over 60's are not Boomers but don't let that get in the way of your prejudice, bigotry and lies.
