One does have to wonder.

I've said before the US is an interesting country, just because of the right to bear arms....the people are armed and I'd guess the authorities dont like it.

Western Governments want to disarm their own populations, whilst arming the populations of other countries.

Chaos, will be our greatest export.

Some great stuff in that article

Not surprisingly, big government has been at the heart of the problem. Washington has incentivized the militarization of local police precincts by using federal dollars to help municipal governments build what are essentially small armies—where police departments compete to acquire military gear that goes far beyond what most of Americans think of as law enforcement.

This is usually done in the name of fighting the war on drugs or terrorism. The Heritage Foundation’s Evan Bernick wrote in 2013 that, “the Department of Homeland Security has handed out anti-terrorism grants to cities and towns across the country, enabling them to buy armored vehicles, guns, armor, aircraft, and other equipment.”

Bernick continued, “federal agencies of all stripes, as well as local police departments in towns with populations less than 14,000, come equipped with SWAT teams and heavy artillery.”

Pretty soon US municipalities will be equipped well enough to wage war on each other just like 'tribes' in Iraq and Syria.

At least until it falls into the 'wrong' hands.

Seems to me we did a fine good job equipping ISIS

I assume that's actually the National Guard in the picture. However, the local PD SWAT teams do have similar equipment.

Nope.

The worder "trooper" on their gear is short for state trooper. State trooper is a commonly used term in the USA for state (regional) police forces.

Its a non story. The Trayvon martin case was interesting. This is just a bunch of feral animals too impatient to wait for the official reports (or that's their excuse)

At least the Trayvon lot waited a couple of months for the official line before it ended up a national news story.

So you don't think shooting someone who is unarmed 6+ times at range is not an excessive use of force?

I presume by feral animals you mean their police, who have killed two civilians so far.

Or perhaps you believe that arrests and trials are an inconvenience, and summary execution for jaywalking is the way forward.

Be careful what you wish for.

Those supporting the police might want to read this:

http://www.newsweek.com/ferguson-profiling-police-courts-shooting-264744?piano_d=1

“Despite Ferguson’s relative poverty, fines and court fees comprise the second largest source of revenue for the city, a total of 2,635,400,” according to the ArchCity Defenders report.

If true, that article would certainly explain why people are sick of the police and ready to riot. That's $125 in fines and fees for every single person in the town, every year.

Oh how the billionaire arms manufacturers and their financiers laughed

I wouldn't have had you down as a supporter of Rand Paul but, yes, couldn't agree more.

Although that is the point they look like soldiers.

The US government has worked around all the restrictions on use of the military in America by turning the police into a new military which has no real rules of engagement. The end result is that a significant fraction of the population regards them as an occupying army, and would rather have the real one instead.

I'm guessing IEDs and drone strikes won't be far off.

" in Ferguson, 86 percent of vehicle stops “involved a black motorist, although blacks make up just 67 percent of the population.” In addition, blacks stopped in Ferguson “are almost twice as likely as whites to be searched (12.1 percent versus 6.9 percent) and twice as likely to be arrested (10.4 percent versus 5.2 percent)”. Searches of blacks only results in discovery of contraband 21.7 percent of the time, whereas contraband is recovered from their less frequently stopped white counterparts 34.0 percent of the time. "

“Despite Ferguson’s relative poverty, fines and court fees comprise the second largest source of revenue for the city, a total of 2,635,400,”. And in 2013, the Ferguson Municipal Court issued 24,532 arrest warrants and 12,018 cases, “or about 3 warrants and 1.5 cases per household.”
