Remember Community Right To Build?

Recommended Posts

Introduced in 2012, it was supposed to allow local communities to undertake small-scale developments without planning permission, subject to a local referendum. Guess how many homes have been built as a result of this scheme:

While no Community Right to Build referendums have taken place yet, and thus the answer ... is zero.

Typical of what we see from the governments housing policy - gimmicky, ineffective schemes that generate a few headlines to make it look like they are doing something.

Really good work James, with that FOI request.

The Government has made grant funding available through the Homes and Communities Agency and the Greater London Authority to enable community groups to develop and prepare their proposals. A total of five applications for funding to develop Community Right to Build Orders have been approved by the Homes and Communities Agency and the Greater London Authority including those which have already submitted their applications to their respective Local Planning Authority.

The Government also appointed Locality to provide advice and support to community groups looking to use the community rights including the Community Right to Build. Under this contract an enquiry line and a website providing clear guidance and case studies have been established. Locality and their partners have been working with 60 groups to provide assistance and advice.

What does the above have to do with your FOI request ? I am quite shocked at the political addition to the answer.
