Yell.com Announce Closure Of Glasgow Office

Recommended Posts

Its about time dinosaurs like Yell went down really, who needs a directory like this with Internet searches available to everyone? I thought they had folded already actually too, the delivered paper YP (when I ever saw it) just got smaller and smaller and I assumed it just went they way of the dodo!

I thought they'd folded years ago.

I remember their early noughties spending spree. What a jolly!

Yeah, they are a bit like the 118 type numbers, this is generally no need for them when you have goolgle on your phone.

Years ago there was really only the yellow pages and then the thomson local...Yellow pages charged me around £500 for a boxed lineage ad around 2cmx1cm It did bring in good work but now it is easy to place ads free and also Yell.com do a free service and make attempts to get you to "upgrade" but the free ads are very good and its sfill a brand people go to albeit online now of course. Why the h ell they use the name Hibu...gawd only knows. I believe people are still typing in/searching yell.com

Aren't they now called Hibu, or is that their online service?

Hibu.

I wonder how much they paid some marketing 'genius' to put together 4 letters of the alphabet for them.

I have family members that still advertise in the YP. This is because there is a large market of elderly, non internet savvy people still out there.

We got a new Yellow Pages the other week, and I put it against the old one, and the new one even skinnier by a good 30-50 pages I would estimate. Seems to have been the way for a good few years.

Just been to look at it, to check it's not owned by a different entity to Yell... yes... same. hibu email addresses inside... To advertise... m*********@hibu.co.uk

Hibu changed their name from Yell in 2012, but then boss Mike Pocock had to admit the new title didn’t mean anything. He said: “It’s just a word. “It doesn’t mean a lot by itself. But when you turn the clock back, neither did Apple and Google and Yahoo.”
