thecrashingisles
http://www.bbc.com/news/technology-28331598 A French judge has ruled against a blogger because her scathing restaurant review was too prominent in Google search results. The judge ordered that the post's title be amended and told the blogger Caroline Doudet to pay damages. Ms Doudet said the decision made it a crime to be highly ranked on search engines. The restaurant owners said the article's prominence was unfairly hurting their business. Ms Doudet was sued by the owner of Il Giardino restaurant in the Aquitaine region of southwestern France after she wrote a blogpost entitled "the place to avoid in Cap-Ferret: Il Giardino". wherebee
http://www.bbc.com/news/technology-28331598 So will the newspapers that reported this story now be sued in turn, as presumably they too are now high up the search engines for that name? And now this site too!!! Maybe someone should tell the judge to walk into the next century and have a sniff what 2001+ looks like

Steppenpig
Quote ... sued by the owner of Il Giardino restaurant in the Aquitaine region of southwestern France after she wrote a blogpost entitled "the place to avoid in Cap-Ferret: Il Giardino". I guess that place is either going to go bankrupt overnight thanks to all this bad publicity the owner is a raking up for himself, or it'll become a must go to destination, like that chinese restaurant in London famous for the staff being rude to you. SNACR
Not sure I've much sympathy for her.Online reviews and feedback generally give the wrong sort of person too big a platform. They also have a tendency to push products and services towards mainstream mediocrity as more companies are forced to take heed of them.
SNACR
It's a matter of free speech though isn't is, SNACR? She's entitled to her opinion, there's no such thing as the 'wrong person' for having a platform. Shame she's giving up, she should take it to Europe. No her intent is to economically damage the business, it's not freedom of expression. Anyone that proactively leaves online reviews is the wrong person probably.
