Apprenticeships Programme 'threatened' By Jobs Cuts

Recommended Posts

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/education/educationnews/10962460/Apprenticeships-programme-threatened-by-jobs-cuts.html

A Coalition drive to boost the number of apprenticeships was criticised today after it emerged that almost half of staff tasked with delivering courses in England are being cut.

Just months after the Government pledged to expand the number of on-the-job training places, it emerged that the number of staff tasked with driving the programme was being reduced by 47 per cent.

The move has been made as part of sweeping cutbacks in the civil service designed to save taxpayers’ money and reduce the deficit.

But the disclosure prompted claims of that an expansion of apprenticeships was built on “empty rhetoric”, with warnings that the programme could struggle without proper national control.

Do you need a course to be an apprentice?

'Apprenticeships' being used to massage unemployment, keeping the young occupied for long periods of time learning things in the past they would have learned - and been paid for - on the job. Left-Right the rhetoric and kiddology is the same.

Apprenticeships were for learning a skill or trade. Now we seem to import those trades, saving money on the training bit.

Lets get this straight, the bureaucrats that administer this absurd program that pushes for apprenticeships with all the unintended consequences that that entails are being laid off. These people are destroying wealth, not creating it. Fire the other 53% and end this absurd scheme.

These aren't even the people who actually set up and help deliver apprenticeships, the real work is done by colleges and firms.

Basically this is just firing some unnecessary Civil Servants.
