Checked-In!

Recommended Posts

I've just checked-in to my new home.

I was going over the check-in report, and I can see they have been thorough!

Upstairs landing: "4 carpet moths on walls".

I have carefully taken the moths and put them in a matchbox so I can restore the house to its original state when I leave :D

The check-in report didn't specify whether the moths were alive or dead, so I have a bit of leeway there ;)

Blimey, if these are clothes moths (which eat carpets too) PLEASE watch out for others in your clothes! They will go for anything made of wool. We have a positive plague of clothes moths ATM - Mr B has spent a bomb on stuff to get rid of the little buggers before they lay eggs and we get another lot. They have chewed a hole in the dining room carpet and a few sweaters ( always the nicest ones) have been found with tell tale little holes. If you've got anything woolly (or cashmere) pls get some moth killer ASAP - Robert Dyas sells various types.

Last time i checked in, i had to clean the gas burners on the hob, as they were so caked in sludge they wouldn't light.

Course when i moved out they docked £100 as the flat wasn't "professionally cleaned".

It was like a new pin compared to when i moved in though.

They provided an invoice from a local cleaning co (probably owned by the agents wife) to prove they "cleaned" the flat on my behalf.

Yeah like they cleaned it before i moved in.

Complete and utter scam from start to finish.

I spent 2 days cleaning the place before i moved. It was ******ing spotless.

I opted for a 240 mile commute 2/3 days a week rather than rent again.

Letting agents are walking filth.

When our tenancy started there were 10 sides of a4 covered in photo evidence, so about 30 photos from the letting agent.

When we leave I will take the same photos from the same angle, so if there is any dispute I have photo evidence against them , the same as they have against me.

Don't worry folks - we have declared total war on the moths... sprayed the carpets, fumigated the house, and put anti-moth gizmos in all the wardrobes.

The carpets are brand new (literally a week old)... do you think they could have come in from the warehouse?

Yes. I think ours came initially from a load of stuff Mr B had in storage after his old man died - couldn't face getting rid of it straight away. The area was supposed to be fumigated etc. but we still found some.

He was clearing/insulating our loft recently and a small woollen rug that had been up there for ages was literally half eaten away. There were two larger ones they had not touched, thank heavens, since they were nice and daughter wanted them for her wooden floors.

We had the same problem years ago after moving into a rental. We lost our best clothes. And it was not easy to get rid of the problem permanently. We had to Google about it, and buy some specialist product.
