Judge tells teenage Gloucester burglar to expect a harsher sentence because crime took place in CheltenhamA Gloucester teenager who admitted a house burglary was warned by a judge that he faces a 'premium' sentence because the crime took place in Cheltenham. The sentence on Matthew Jones, 18, will be tougher than it would have been if the burglary was elsewhere, said Judge Jamie Tabor QC at Gloucester crown court. Jones, of Park st, Kingsholm, Gloucester, pleaded guilty to breaking into a house in Paddock Lane, Cheltenham, on March 31 this year and stealing a camera, two lenses, a rucksack , two watches, a penknife, and a glove. Joe Maloney, defending, said Jones has been visited by police regularly and has also confessed to two offences he will ask the court to take into consideration. Judge Tabor agreed to adjourn the case pending the finalisation of the list of offences to be considered. But he warned "This is a Cheltenham burglary, which means that there is something of a premium on sentencing because burglaries in Cheltenham are so common at the present time. Executive Sadman Posted June 29, 2014 Share Posted June 29, 2014 Meh, same demented thinking that means someone killed in a 'racially motivated' attack can expect their killer to get a harsher sentence, because obviously the victims families will be ever so relieved if they find out their loved one was murdered for one of the other thousand mindless reasons instead of racism.
