interestrateripoff
http://www.express.co.uk/news/royal/484893/Proof-our-sovereign-really-is-worth-her-weight-in-gold What a bargain! How the Royal Family costs you just 56p a year THE Queen is to get an inflation-busting “pay rise” of five per cent, taking her annual income above £40million.The £2million increase comes as a result of record profits at the Crown Estate which were up thanks to overseas interest in its central London properties and investment in wind farms. Its £9.4billion property portfolio includes the entire UK seabed and Regent Street in London’s West End. The monarchy last year cost taxpayers £35.7million – just 56p each for all her subjects. Joe Little, editor of Majesty magazine, said: “The monarchy is exceptionally good value at 56p per person. We are looking at money for the Royal Family performing all their official duties. I know some people won’t agree but I think it is still represents an excellent use of public money.” The Queen’s income from the taxpayer will rise because of a deal linking the Royal Household’s Sovereign Grant from the Government to 15 per cent of the profits of the Crown Estate property portfolio. The Crown Estate, which is nominally owned by the monarch but hands all its profits to the Treasury, made record profits of £267.1million in the year to March – an increase of almost six per cent. It is the third year running that the 88-year-old Queen has enjoyed a big increase in funding thanks to the Crown Estate. Under a deal introduced by Chancellor George Osborne in 2012, the first payout started at £31million, rose to £36million last year and will be £38million next year. The £40million Sovereign Grant will be paid in 2016. Bargain.

JustAnotherProle
If the royals are such good value why don't they get paid by means testing, by that I mean that the usual propaganda trotted out by the loyal slaves erm subjects..is that they bring in a lot of money for tourism. Great , I say, why don't we then base how much money they get on how much tourism they generate, that way they are self funding and actually have to work for their living, like the rest of us. It's either that or we have a referendum on a republic where the head of state is employed because of their knowledge and skills, rather than who's ancestor was the most psychotic with the biggest army? Where do I opt out of paying for my own subjugation by an unelected head of state endorsed by an imaginary being? Just a thought.. Don't be silly. 99.999999999999999999999999999999r % of the populace love the royals so a vote would be pointless. Actually a vote would be really interesting - i think they'd probable get ~60% in favour. But that would let them and all their sycophants know that there are tens of millions that don't want them.... which is why we'll never get a vote. 21st century monarchy - what a joke. porca misèria
Will 5% be enough to take her out of fuel poverty?
katchytitle
We get this propaganda pumped out every year. Are they dividing by every man, woman and child to come up with this "only" 56p number? Secondly, what about all the other profits the queen's family make through dodgy connections? We've got the Duchy originals business plus other companies they own and profit from only due to this massive subsidy and royal connections. The reality is the queen still has a meeting with her Prime Minister every week. Charles writes letters to politicians about his views. If they don't want something it doesn't happen. The country is always run as a kleptocracy, for the few. You just give everyone just enough to eat and drink and live a meagre life (albeit to do that we invaded half the world and standard of living compared the the world is pretty good)
zugzwang
I want my 56p back. I earned it. Not her. Think yourself lucky. That nice Mr Jeremy Hunt wants you to pay compensation for Jimmy Savile's crimes too!

rh2409
The idea that in the 21st century an individual should be accorded status, wealth and privilege on the basis of the fact that they were squeezed into this world from between a pair of "royal" legs is morally reprehensible. The Royals are inbred, braindead, thieving, aristocratic parasites: http://www.itsarandomworld.com/2014/03/15/
