Actor Francis Matthews, who was the voice of Captain Scarlet in Gerry Anderson's 1960s TV show, has died at the age of 86.

Matthews lent his voice to the indestructible puppet hero, who defended the Earth in Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons, in 1967 and '68.

The actor also played private detective Paul Temple in the BBC series of the same name from 1969.

Another famous voice dies.

Not "Indestructible" then?

If anyone has the original Spectrum Pursuit Vehicle (Corgi), they are worth a few bob! ^_^

Anything can happen in the next half hour. ;)

I especially liked the way Marina didn't nag! But that is for the "other" thread!

My uncle was easily conned! He also bought a Hillman Imp that the dealer told him was 'Stingray'!

It's hardly fish-shaped, is it? My imaginary uncle was sold a Corvette Stingray, on the grounds that is was economical, and safe round corners! He only went out for a battery for his Morris Oxford! I think this runs in the family! I went shopping for guitar strings once, and came back with a piano!

My Goodness! The SPV crash has already happened!

For some reason I thought these were popular, and because they all got broken, very few good ones left!

I heard she was into watersports too.

Stingray, had a pretty good sense of humour with jokes that were too good for children, but I don't think they pulled that one! <_<

Stingray, Thunderbird, Marina, (Mike) Mercury...

Odd that Anderson named his series after good cars, and his characters after crap cars.

Steve Zodiac (Fireball XL5, for you youngsters!)

I'm always amused at cars that sound like pr0n mags! Ford did both an Escort and a Fiesta, and there was the Mini Mayfair!

Yes, my Uncle drove all of those. But his favourite was the Ford Leather and Bondage Monthly.

Yes, that's the one with the leather trim and seatbelts!

Re the SPV, is this the one where the driver faced rearwards and steered via TV screens with forward facing cameras?

Challenge anyone to do that without chucking up!

I imagine the vehicle would be filled with multi coloured "Spectrum" vomit worse than a Glasgow minicab on a Sunday morning!
