"dog Whistle Politics"

Recommended Posts

I thought this was an interesting post from Rev. Richard Coles:

"Talking off air to my new best friend Jeremy Paxman this morning I learned a new thing: dog whistle politics. It's the unsayable things politicians want to say and voters want to hear, or some of them, but they're too risky to be explicitly stated - right wingers on race, for example, or left wingers on tax - so they have to be decoded. Lot of it about don't you think?"

In other words mainstream politicians have no-one to blame for the rise of UKIP et al. but their cowardly selves.
