Nhs Telephone Appointments

Recommended Posts

Him indoors has been referred for an ultrasound and gastronomy.
The Choose and book system has given him 2 telephone appointments.

I know there are smart phones these days but what on earth are they planning on doing via the phone?

Is it an appointment to book an appointment?

Think it might be gastroscopy, though gastronomy sounds much more pleasant!

As to choose and book - it's not working, which is why it's being phased out shortly. You're supposed to phone for an appointment. :)

That's the one. Have I set auto-blood-y-correct up on this by accident?

Ahh right so it's just an appointment for an appointment.

He's intrigued and amused by the idea of using the choose and book system to choose and book an appointment to get an appointment.

Does his smartphone have the new flexible extended camera gizmo and the app to control it?

You will be amazed what they can do over the internet these days......

If they need to go in 'the other end' I would recommend some lubricant jelly. It helps those corners navigate......

We did laugh about it the other day when he'd chosen and booked his appointments that there might be a fancy attachment for some of these modern phones. :)

A gastroscopy (down the throat) is pretty horrible though for some people - he might be given the option to be sedated - some people prefer it that way.

(Unless that was a joke about looking at Uranus through a telecscope :) )

I'm pretty sure it was up the bum! Luckily they found no planets!

I'm sure you'd remember! I've heard with the bum ones the preparation can be worse than the actual telescope - two days of starvation followed by lots of laxatives to clean you out beforehand.

He's had a gastroscopy before. Don't think he was sedated.

Last time he was sent for a liver scan they got very excited about a calcium cyst in his kidney that about 3 lots of specialists looked at the X-rays of before deciding it wasn't cancer.

Am fairly sure he's had a colonoscopy too but he doesn't talk about that.

Yes, some people I know have had gastroscopies with no problems at all - others just gag and need sedating - I had one many years ago and was definitely one of those who needed to be sedated - I've a lot of respect for anyone who doesn't - it felt like I was trying to swallow the arm off an anglepoise lamp.

I had a gastroscopy in 2007; was given a weird metallic-banana flavoured throat spray to remove my gag reflex. It worked fine. Not a nice procedure though; I had mine without anaesthetic as I didn't fancy hanging around for hours afterwards on the ward while the effects wore off. Also had an ultrasound, which is painless, though I got some funny looks from all the pregnant women in the waiting room.(I'm a bloke.)

Well appt 1 wasn't for him. Apparently it's a deadline for the GP to fill in info and hit some button to activate the next bit of that appointment system.
It's visible on the existing choose and book system but probably shouldn't be to him.

His next telephone appointment is tomorrow.
