Win 8.1, Ie11 - Quote And Copy/paste Don't Work

Recommended Posts

As title.

Recently "upgraded" (don't laugh) to Windows 8.1 which comes with IE11.

Browser appears to be quite flawed and I'd think that the browser might be to blame, not the website.

Click "Quote" on a post and you get a little overlay timer thing at the top ("waiting") which never goes away. You have to use F5 to refresh the page.

Copy and paste simply don't work in the text editor box.

Anyone else have this, or is it something to do with my setup... all other sites seem fine.

I pressed Quote to reply to you. This time it didn't "hang" as it usually does but as you can see, no quote.

The "Full Editor" switch is on.

I'll try a reboot - machine is only rebooted every few months.

Had IE11 with Win 7 and downgraded it back to IE10. Come on Microsoft, you're better than Google. Don't turn out crap like this.

I hit "quote", got the reply box with My Media etc. switched on (that doesn`t allow you to quote) switched the little switch in the left corner off (that allows you to quote and reply) then switched it on again to add bold or smileys etc.

Just rebooted.

Clicked "Quote" and it's back to "normal".

The little overlay at the top appears briefly then vanishes.

The post editor box does not show the quote and is now disabled, can't type into it.

F5 to refresh the page and I can then reply without quote.

Paste does not do anything.

I shall see if I can downgrade to IE10 as IE11 has other issues including the "long running script" one that locks the page quite often. Microsoft, what on earth have you done. I'd expect this on an Android device.

Press F12.

Scroll down on the left.

Click the last icon "Emulation".

Choose "10" for "Document Type"

Works now as does paste.

Then it detects a Javascript error in the page if you hit the delete key and reloads the whole thing setting it back to Default so Quote stops working. The JavaScript error appears to be genuine, it is a site fault.

Close the panel at the bottom (F12) and it just goes back to IE11 mode and breaks again.

I think Microsoft may have outsourced development to Google. Thanks ever so. This will keep me busy tomorrow.

Unbelievable, I'm at one of those tricky locations where the package neither allows copy and past nor quotes and I have managed both. Sorry DT Mark but I am totally fick with IT and all that stuff about emulation assumes some knowlege of IT.

Then I read dances with sheeple's post and something about turning off a light switch (which I finally realised was not on the keyboard or wider screen but on this panel) and hey bloody presto. Now that I can understand.

Thanks dances with sheeple.
