Aside from intellectual curiosity, I am not exactly worried by aliens. Any species that has managed to crack interstellar travel at respectable speeds (say 50% of the speed of light and upwards) is not going to be overly interested in anything we have to offer. Any species that has cracked FTL travel would probably not even recognise us as intelligent.

This the fundamental flaw with all of the alien invasion films. Species shows up in their warp drive ships, having flown past vast numbers of worlds, and squillions of tonnes of water. Why are they here? To plunder the water supplies of earth. Yeah right.

Actually, District 9 had this about right.

Imagine a plane crashes on an inhabited but stone age island somewhere. The locals would be impressed by the inexplicable gadgetary of the visitors but also baffled that this seemingly advanced "species" was almost totally helpless, incapable even of summoning fire without help from some magic gadget.

Those prawns in District 9 would have been the same - they probably were very good at their specialised roles but were totally helpless out of that environment. Effectively they were dumb peasants and as likely to be able to re-build an inter-stellar space craft as a business analyst would be to build an A380 from scratch on a desert island.

Nothing makes me think that, which is why I didn't say it.

You said "It's not as if they've had [FLT] ever since their species existed", that is, any species with FLT also existed at some point without FLT. The only way this can be universally true is if the acquision of FLT prevents the evolution of new species. Simple logic. :P

“One thing is for certain: there is no stopping them; the ants will soon be here. And I for one welcome our new insect overlords. I’d like to remind them that as a trusted TV personality, I can be helpful in rounding up others to toil in their underground sugar caves.”

I was (para)quoting Kent Brockman in my earlier post ;)
