Telegraph 7/5/14

“That more cautious mentality means people want to put more money aside, but as the British economy still remains over-reliant on consumer spending, every pound tucked away is one less pound circulating in the economy.

Really? Is that pound being stuffed under a mattress or something?

But the trickle-down economics central to wealth creation is only effective if benefits accrue to every stratum of society. And the more the finances of people like Jackson are constricted, the less they spend on goods and services. The less they spend, the more providers of goods and services will suffer.

Idiotic nonsense. He is spending his entire salary on goods and services including £45k on the service of private education. People who come out with these sorts of circular logic nonsensical comments really need to put down the economics text book.

I cant be bothered to re-read the article, but did it say what car he drives? What car his wife drives? What cars he no doubt bought his 17 year old? How many thousands he is paying out for the insurance for his 17 year old?

He is damn right about one thing, he wont get any sympathy for his story. Its ********.

Yes, they only have one wage. The high earners have 2 £100K wages coming in. I know 4 ( actually make that 5 !!!!!! ) couples from London like this. All spent like there is no tomorrow.

My opinion of them is, 1 couple will be divorced within 5 years. 1 couple will loose their jobs soon and 1 couple will end up with a stay at home mum and 1 couple I dont even want to think about because they are so irritating.

Mostly solicitors and people working for banks. No wealth generation, just middle men and leeches.

I know of admin staff on £50k+ too !!!!

I also know of engineers on £35K

This country has real issues.

You're on fire today Count

I don't think £35k for an engineer is a lot? What sort of engineer are you talking about? Civil, Mechanical? After the amount of training you have to go through to become an engineer I think £35k is quite low. I certainly earn more than that!

I think that was the Count's point.

Perhaps this might refresh his memory on one of the last times he went out for dinner?

I'm guessing the wife makes a six-figure sum too.

I'm guessing he's not really worth £125k/year, looks like that at 53 he is contracting, and hence on a daily rate of ~£500/day:

No wonder he feels insecure. Never mind mate, stick a bit more on the mortgage.

Looks like he has also dabbled in pyramid selling BS:

I read the article this morning and thought:

1) He's a financial compliance officer but is incapable of properly managing his personal income.
2) £120k is considered the top end of middle income by that newspaper - absolutely ridiculous.

Both points covered already but now my opinion is hosted on the interweb forever too :) I basically just thought the guy an absolute dick.

All a crock of shite really.

If he didn't work in London and moved to a regulat, but ok town, he could happily send his kids to a state school saving £45k post tax earnings. He would get change from £200k for his house.

I bet if you worked it out he'd be better off earning about £60k a couple hundred miles away from London.

awesome! hpc is the new /b/!

His SO is: "A qualified NLP* practitioner,"

All he has to do is look in the mirror and say "I am a success!" and he'll be fine.

just wondering what leads you to think the wife is earning ANY money at all?

There were several bods at the Local Executive job club...little work for those types and there must be thousands in the game?..or maybe my lot were untypically underemployed?

Well there's signs of life on her blog & Facebook feed. Also the company accounts shows £30k of income due, which is a pretty substantial pipeline. Possible some of it is from her husband of course (in contrast to the 'squeezed middle' BS I would be very surprised if he's paying full PAYE tax - I guess he is either putting the income through the company, or has some other, dodgier tax scheme) but no more than £10k of that (based on £125k annual income).

Looks like she has already pimped her finances in the paper:

Why do these highly paid professionals (supposedly) need a newspaper to tell them to get cheaper car insurance?

FFS.

I see what you mean.

This family seem to be professional press releasers.

Saw an article recently about this sort, there was a couple who are regular on game and reality shows...helps them pass the time, and they change their reality to suit the angle for the show.

Rather worrying that this chump is in financial services, it seems he doesn't understand anything about budgeting. Education for the kids has to be private, even thought there are perfectly good State schools, especially in London. Presumably he can't afford to go out for a meal because that means some Gourmet restaurant at £100 a head.

How does someone unable to handle money get such a job.

[..]

How does someone unable to handle money get such a job.

Being feckless and having no idea about living within one's means is pretty much a pre-requisite for employment the financial services sector these days. Financial 'policy' is all about everyone taking on as much debt as they can possibly get.

Fair enough, I misread. Yes I agree engineers, i.e. useful people should be paid a lot more! :)

actually no.

The others need to be paid LESS.
