Garden Suburb Planned For Oldham

Recommended Posts

The 8.11 hectare site, which boasts the Grade II-listed former Failsworth Lodge at its heart, will now be transformed to a well-maintained and leafy development with generous back gardens.

The council bought the site from Oldham Athletic as part of a deal to secure the club’s future in the town and originally earmarked it for a leisure project. But after the plans failed to raise interest, a residential scheme was put on the table.

They are moving an allotment site to make way for this. Mind the power lines when you buy your house, and the TA on the main road, and the tram doesn't stop there.

Commuter belt for Manchester, but without nice little shops like Chorlton it'll just be a sad empty few streets of houses.

Just glad some nice houses are being built. the planning system does seem to have freed up a bit with the forced local plans. The downside to the local plans is it completely excludes self builders.

Don't know if it affects the playing fields, the park or the Moston brook bit.

The council are very keen on the idea of luxury housing.

Some 4 bedroom ones were built not far from me. Didn't sell. In the end a HA took them on and let some out and let at least one out on a 'rent now buy later' thing which didn't work out for the couple who bought into that idea.

There's a school site (or five) they're planning on building on too. It might be former South Chad school also near me - as we saw people on there with those test drill things yesterday.

Terrific news. Even better news if it had been someplace with jobs.

You can't build houses where they would be of value as it would devalue the surrounding houses. You are only allowed to build very dense slums as they have little to no value and will not devalue the surrounding houses on generous plots.
