Pertinent Question.

Recommended Posts

I live in the midlands with my wife and two children and we were considering upgrading from the 3 bed house we bought 3 years ago to a 4 bedroom. In my village at least the extra bedroom commands a premium of over £100,000 over our £160k home and if we were to go modestly detached (modern, postage stamp sized plot) that'd then rise to £180,000 ffs.

For clarity:

3 bed semi £160k

4 bed semi £260k

4 bed detached £340k

Question is why? We could but we won't but why? Ffs

A bit less pronounced jumps near me, but still a 4 bed detached house on a plot of a suitable size is basically a no-no for a top 20% earning household, 7 times income at the low end in an ok part of town.

Better renting bigger places, but a village carries risks with school places etc if you are evicted.
