If only I could find some justification to buy a property like''IF IT DOESN'T SHOW ANY SIGNIFICANT FALLS'',if I was a Londoner I could at least look to potential capital growth but the amount of DEAD MONEY you pay to own in the provinces is frightening.

I am viewing a flat in the Park District ,Nottingham Thursday which could set me back £280,000,the first property I will have viewed in over a year.

Cost of buying:-

amortisation of lease £4000(70 years left)

service charge £1000

extra council tax £1000

extra overheads £1000

lost interest net on principal £14000

total £21000

PROSPECT OF CAPITAL GROWTH ZERO,PROSPECT OF CAPITAL LOSS LIKELY

CURRENT RENT £2700 PA.POTENTIAL DEAD MONEY TO BECOME A HOMEOWNER £18300PA.

Well hopefully the local LLs will gang together to ramp up rents. Then you will be able to justify it :).

Did the OP ever buy?

I bought a little after that first post was made. I hope his gf is hitting him over the head! Just imagine if they had bought a run down hole, spent a year fixing it up and sold on at (maybe?) the top. HPC has a lot to answer for, but then I have little sympathy for those that base their financial security on this site!
