fluffy666
I found an interesting statement about the debasement of Science by Educational institutions: "The researchers writing them often don't even understand what they're doing wrong and don't care. Research is increasingly indistinguishable from politics. Studies are framed in ways that prove a political premise, whether it's that the world will end without a carbon tax or that racism causes obesity" The thing is, all the examples given are from medical research, a field with *known* problems (ironically discovered mainly by research on the papers themselves). The influence of the drug companies and the huge financial consequences that often hinge upon a single paper are fairly well restricted to the field. It's a bit disingenuous to extrapolate from that field to 'All Science'. His claims that people are deliberately framing studies to promote a carbon tax or a racism-obesity link are themselves baseless.. As far as your engineers go.. Certainly, Asian educational systems seriously emphasize rote learning which is why they tend to do better in standardized league tables - I have no experience of Nigerian systems - and it can lead to serious inflexibility in problem solving.
