Soros Says Europe Faces 25-Year Slump Without Overhaul

Billionaire investor George Soros said Europe faces 25 years of Japanese-style stagnation unless politicians pursue further integration of the currency bloc and change policies that have discouraged banks from lending.

While the immediate financial crisis that has plagued Europe since 2010 “is over,” it still faces a political crisis that has divided the region between creditor and debtor nations, Soros, 83, said in a Bloomberg Television interview in London today. At the same time, banks have been encouraged to pass stress tests, rather than boost the economy by providing capital to businesses, he said.

Europe “may not survive 25 years of stagnation,” Soros said in the interview with Francine Lacqua. “You have to go further with the integration. You have to solve the banking problem, because Europe is lagging behind the rest of the world in sorting out its banks.”

Optimistic just 25 years....

We appear to be in for a longer depression than that.

"the rest of the world in sorting out its banks.” - soros

Yes, QE and HTB and other money printing tricks shoveling huge amounts of cheap reserves are making it appear that the banks are being sorted outside of the EU.

So, soros saying that we need more Keynsian Funny Money.

I'd say that the money printers are in bigger trouble down the road. At least Europe has a semblance of debt restructuring and write-off, the Germans hate inflation and are still scarred by Weimar. We just create more debt with the pedal to the metal and damn the consequences.

strange mumblings from soros indeed.

one other previous report he blamed germany for trying to rule the roost.(and to a degree he is quite correct about the massive imbalances between the creditor and debtor nations.)

..farage too also pointed this out, that the sort of economic conditions being meted out to countries like greece, alongside the emasculation of industry etc and the means to pay it back ALSO serve as an incubator for a far-right backlash(or a russian takeover..which will most likely prompt a military response by the expansionist "elite" mindset of the EU political class...who quite frankly STILL believe they have been ordained by god himself and therefore cannot be questioned on anything, ever.

both sides are very, very dangerous people indeed.they need locking up.

methinks being hungarian jew with parents in the concentration camps..he might be a bit concerned about resurgent nazism...which is precisely what is going to happen as a counterweight to communism if he's not careful.(and the likes of blair..fascist(always was if you saw his policies, pumping the place full of commies is PRECISELY to stoke the reverse-psychology agenda)

..just for st tony of sedgefield:a little sermon from the mount.(from proverbs)

12 A naughty person, a wicked man, walketh with a froward mouth. 13 He winketh with his eyes, he speaketh with his feet, he teacheth with his fingers; 14 Frowardness is in his heart, he deviseth mischief continually; he soweth [1] discord. 15 Therefore shall his calamity come suddenly; suddenly shall he be broken without remedy. 16 These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: 17 A proud [2] look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, 18 An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, 19 A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.
