Start The Week - Adair Turner Et Al On Radio 4

Recommended Posts

Switched this on half way through, but it's a discussion on money supply, debt, asset bubbles on the MSM (if you can call Radio 4 that)!

http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b03w0110

Someone made the point about loose debt being bad for society (high house prices) but this thread seemed to be stamped on.

But afterwards there were many references to debt/money being malinvested in property.

Didn't know about Grapes of Wrath link to debt/banking.

Why wouldn't 4 be MSM? I would have thought it's the epitome.

Sure it's mainstream as in part of the establishment, but I think the audience size is tiny (very little traffic on Twitter this morning about this programme, for example - although R4 audience isn't exactly Twitter demographic!).

Yes it was an interesting listen. Seems like the 'main stream' is sleepwalking into an understanding of the issues....

Turner is one of the few at the top who seem to actually get that the problem was not some random perturbation in the markets, it was the entire edifice of neo liberal market worshiping quasi religious bullshite that preceded it.

He kind of reminds me of those people who have spent a decade in a cult and only now look back and realize that their entire world view was a delusion. The problem is that the same cult currently runs the world.
