Silicon Valley Firms Facing Class Action Law Suits Over Cartel To Lower Tech Wages

A number of Silicon Valley firms are going to face a $9bn law suit over a conspiracy to lower wages. Basically they conspired at a senior level not to poach each others staff.

This is actually illegal and the plaintiffs have been given permission to bring a law suit.

I can see this also developing here in the UK as it is also illegal here and I am fairly certain it goes on.

Odd. My experience has always been the opposite - ridiculous terms in the employment contract that make it very hard to work for another company in the same sector. I ignored it.

Tech is my sector, and all my recent (including current) employment - other than self-employment - has been with Silicon Valley employers. They're very scrupulous about not putting unreasonable restrictions on me. A sharp contrast to the UK employers I've suffered in the past.

As for poaching, about four years ago I was largely responsible for poaching a senior techie guy from IBM to my (heart-of-Silicon-Valley) then-employer ;)
