Burke V Bonnets Rouges

FT (headline only):

The scarlet hat has become the symbol of protest against François Hollande’s tax rises.

AEP in the Tellygraf:

Professor Li said the 18th Century Irish philosopher Edmund Burke is now all the rage in Chinese universities, studied for his critique of violent revolution, and esteemed as the prophet of stability through timely but controlled change. They are enamoured by his theories of inheritance, the "living contract" through the generations, the limits of liberty, and -- a harder sell -- his small battalions

Should be "little platoon".

Personally, I feel the French got it right in the end. They were left without a Royal Family and without a load of parasites sitting in an Upper Chamber.

The French Senate is chock full of parasites, plus there is local government, community of communes government, departmental government, regional government plus national and european level government plus Quangos a gogo. It is parasitetastic in France.

Of course, these people aren't actually French.....but Bretons; their closest historical relatives being the Welsh and the Cornish. There is also a strong Breton nationalistic element running along these demonstrations. But you're unlikely to hear that from the Brit press.
