I had forgotten the starfighter. But considering its heritage and record, that's no bad thing.

I stand by my comment and say that the picture of this 'thing' just looks wrong. Sweptness is not just an obvious aerodynamic advantage iirc, stability and structural issues also play a part.

Lots of countries will ban it flying overhead. Others will see it as a military or terrorist threat.

Supersonic jet flying overhead bound to have some rich decadent guy in it. Anyone got SAMs?

Aye.

Wonder if any of them will take advantage of the supersonic feature and have a crack at beating John Denver's long-standing celebrity air-to-ground speed record...

XYY

Thought I recognised it. So it's a 'starfighter' at the beginning of Star Trek 'Tomorrow is Yesterday' which I watched just the other day. Enterprise is thrown back in time and starfighter is on intercept course to investigate UFO. It breaks up as they hold it off with tractor beam, and Kirk beams the pilot aboard. Impressive take-off from runway for the starfighter at the beginning though. One of those takeoffs then straight into vertical.
