:(

Strewth, you'd also need to catch a bus to get from one end of the kitchen to the other

(I'm guessing from the photo that Cameron is right handed and Osborne is left handed)

To be honest, I think the previous selling price or date is incorrect, unless the house was falling down.

it`s correct alright , the house`s here are all being sold for money like this , the difference a few months make.

No garage, no garden for £650k!!

The Chinese 'investor' who snaps up this bargain needs their head testing.

TBH, the pile of decaying, poorly insulated and damp bricks is fairly worthless (You could build it without insulation cavity etc. for < £80k).

It's the 20m2 of land it's sat on that is commanding £500k - that must be a record.

It stands out now.! The yellow paint is worth 100k

I could build you that using old second hand bricks, crap cement, no insulation and second hand tiles for < £80k and have change for a pint!

The house is on google street view pre the renovations.

Good god, it's been tarted up a bit. Looks like it was "renovated" by a builder who thought putting the entire kitchen on one wall in a kitchen that length was a good idea. That driveway and the paint job are a little out of place too.

You have to get into the global Psyche. It is a simple one, and can be summed up in one sentence.

London = £1m house.

Shrugs..

For real.

Have a look at this road.

https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=3+Deepdale,+London+Borough+of+Merton&hl=en&ll=51.429839,-0.219458&spn=0.006917,0.013078&sll=51.241515,-0.565423&sspn=0.111121,0.209255&oq=3+deepdale,&hnear=3+Deepdale,+Merton,+Greater+London,+United+Kingdom&t=m&z=17&layer=c&cbll=51.429766,-0.219542&panoid=wfC8OvkA_gnd9q-zF9nkbA&cbp=12,312.89,,1,3.88

The houses there are unremarkable boxes worth under £250k somewhere oop north.

That house sold in 2012 for £2.1m

http://www.rightmove.co.uk/house-prices/detailMatching.html?prop=22336629&sale=47740364&country=england

Number 21, previously a similarly unremarkable post-war box, was bought for £1m in 2007 and is now on sale for £5.45m:

http://www.rightmove.co.uk/new-homes-for-sale/property-43227713.html?premiumA=true

A similar plot is now on sale for £2.95m:

http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-44783225.html

This one is under offer at £3.5m:

http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-27858378.html

The immediate area of course is nice and leafy, but it's entirely unremarkable compared to any of thousands of similar streets across the country where you could buy such a plot for under £500k

These houses were under £300k pre-new-Liebour: http://www.zoopla.co.uk/property/15-deepdale/london/sw19-5ez/23409074

They are only in Council tax Band G, but now the land alone is worth over £2m.

Over £1000/sq ft for tiny boxes with tiny gardens is normal.

If you have a lower budget, then perhaps you would like to live in Bertram Cottages?

"The cottages were commissioned by Miss Keziah Peache over the period 1867 to 1872. Miss Peache was a major benefactress in Wimbledon Parish and as one of the chief supporters of the Cottage Improvement Society in the 1850sand 1860s she built Bertram Cottages and the cottages of Belvedere Square off Church Road and Courthope Villas off Worple Road in Wimbledon for people of limited means."

Exactly how limited?

Try £775,000: http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-42450967.html?premiumA=true

i wonder why all the houses opposite had the bay window removed

The wooden lintle above the bay supporting the brickwork under the window above was probably failing ,,,several houses in a street I used to live in had a similar problem of a similar age , from limited subsidence as they had a stepped brick foundation sat on clay ,perhaps in this case it was more acute ....., my bay roof was shot anyway so I replaced the wooden beam with a steel joist and kept the bay ......who ever did those houses are a butcher , maybe they will render them ? Dunno ?

If I'm looking at houses on rightmove and I come across one of these builder 'empty refurbs' with the usual magnolia and beige carpet combination, I close it down in disgust, it totally puts me off a house, and hope it puts everyone else off too.

Should be against the law to buy a house and make a load of 'improvements' to sell on with no intention of ever living in it.

The elder sister of a friend of mine was doing this in the early 90s and I couldn't work out why she made so much money. 20 years later, and untold TV shows about it and I still just don't really understand.

Whilst I'm partial to a bit of diy and would never choose one myself I know lots of people would much rather move into one of these freshly modernised properties. Not to mention the fact that lots of buyers don't have the cash required to do work themselves, and places like this allow them to put all the cost on a mortgage.

I think they do a pretty good job in modernising or sad old housing stock too, albeit blandly.

Flipping houses and expecting to be paid for doing nothing is one thing but a builder modernising a place is adding value so deserves to be paid for it.
