Britons 'too ignorant' for EU referendum: Top official says debate on Europe is so distorted that people could not make an 'informed decision'

Viviane Reding, vice-president of European Commission, made comments

Speaking in London, she said British people must know 'the facts' on EU

She boasted about how 70 per cent of UK's laws are now made in Brussels

Her comments were attacked by critics for 'dangerous' assumptions

That should get the wail readership boiling with anger.

Britons too ignorant for democracy. What is the point in voting when we're always going to be under the nanny state.

I get the distinct impression that this is the opinion of most politicians.

It was certainly true in the original Common Market referendum; if they'd been properly informed about the politico's intentions, they'd never have voted for it.

Step aside from the question for a tick.

From where are a majority going to develop their knowledge and core data?

Football? Coronation Street? East Enders?

Reading the Sun?

Since Traitor Heath took Britain into what was then the EEC (European Economic Community), by utterly misrepresenting the deal and the ensuing realities, a majority of the shambling electorate have:

"Received the government they deserve!".

Joseph-Marie, comte de Maistre

I have in my archive (Thanks to the Late Sir James Goldsmith) a copy of a letter sent by a then senior Tory Grandee to Heath: reminding him and cautioning Heath that thanks to the hidden realities, voters might in future, turn against the Tory party in droves!

Well, clearly they did not.

Which concludes a majority are effing thick!

Given UKIP getting 20% of the vote I think they did. Just took a while.

Thicker than Ukrainians it seems.
