Prince William To Make Plea For Wildlife

Recommended Posts

BBC website: Prince William goes hunting a day before wildlife plea.

Prince William has gone hunting deer and wild boar in Spain - just a day before he was due to make a public plea to end the illegal wildlife trade...

A royal spokesman said the duke was a "passionate advocate" for wildlife.

"The Duke of Cambridge has for many years been a passionate advocate for endangered wildlife and has campaigned tirelessly to help stop the illegal poaching of rhino horn and elephant tusk. His track record in this area speaks for itself."

Stories like this make me think about the meaning of the word 'poaching' as in 'the illegal practice of trespassing on another's property to hunt or steal game without the landowner's permission'. To what extent can land be owned ? Can you own the wildlife ?

Obviously wiping out endangered species to make money out of superstition is not good. But what about issues like feeding the locals, when governments or private organisations take blanket control of vast areas of wilderness ?

I bet he had a chicken sandwich for lunch as well. Disgusting hypocricy.

I bet he wears leather shoes as well.

Quite.

My issue would be that only small number of privileged people can afford to do it. The rest of us have to get by with 'factory' meat; with little connection with or appreciation of where it comes from.

King of Spain isn't averse to a bit of hunting either....

What is the mentaility behind photos like that?

"Look at me, I can kill an animal that was too far away to kill me"

"Aren't I clever, my shooting is so good I can hit an elephant"

Whatever it is, it's not good afaic.

Personally speaking, and to clarify my earlier post, I do make a distinction between hunting for food and killing for the sake of killing.

Scum. As simple as that
