A 30-year-old civilian woman died after being shot in the head by sniper fire while standing on her balcony in Slavyansk. Irina, who was head of a department at a technical college in Slavyansk, never took part in any protests or fighting. However, when standing on her balcony and waiting for her husband to come home from a nearby garage, the woman was targeted by an unidentified sniper. Neighbors said they heard a popping sound coming from the trees opposite her window. When you can't tell the difference between good civilians and bad civilians I guess you just shoot everyone.. Interesting change of tone in the Telegraph now.. The term “self-defence forces” is the accepted euphemism for the pro-Russian rebels who seized control of Slavyansk last month in the name of the “Donetsk People’s Republic”. They have promised to hold a referendum on Sunday to decide the future status of Donetsk region. The government’s offensive is partially designed to thwart this plan. And the evidence that she was shot by Maiden supporters? The thng I find funny is the complaint about the Russian point of over 6 months. How long has the interim government been in power? They started interfering in Crimea a couple of days after the interim government came to power anayway as well. Unless you believe Russian forces were not involved in Crimea which is lunacy since Putin just gave them medals. Also during the Maidine perio lookin on youtube clips I did not see any automatic weapons in the hands of the protesters. That is essentially why the deal could not be signed without a sweetener, which neither the EU nor the IMF were prepared to give at the time. Since then the situation has badly deteriorated, and so has Ukraine's economy. The Russian border is completely closed. Even when open, Russians are now restricted. This border used to see three million crossings a year - a not insignificant amount of economic activity. Air carriers are cancelling flights. WizzAir has pulled all operations out of Ukraine and cancelled any future plans. Ukrainian Airways is down to 60% capacity. Meanwhile, from Spiegel: Officials at the Foreign Ministry of Frank-Walter Steinmeier believe that up to €25 to €30 billion annually are necessary to provide Ukraine with a modicum of stability. Steinmeier's officials are also pessimistic when it comes to the deeply divided country's political future. The list of maladies runs from unchecked corruption to the country's instable currency to the significant amount of influence enjoyed by radical politicians, particularly on the far right. Some in the Chancellery have likewise begun using the term "failed state." In the comments section, someone notes: It's comical that the US spent 5bn to put Svoboda in charge and now there is no economic aid to give. Most these countries (poland-lithuania,Ukraine) have a history of being dominated, either by western invaders, asian invaders, ottoman invaders. Either way, theyre not fighting or conquerer nations in the sense we or the Germans were. They'll lay down and accept whatever Russia has planned for them. If we are keen to ensure it is fair we should be publicly insisting on impartial observers and safe passage for unarmed reporters on that day. If you have ever been in Russia on this day, you will know what victory over Fascism means in a country that lost 25m people. Tanks following in the tracks of Panzers is not what people want to see. The siege of Slavyansk has already begun, with trains and buses diverted, the town blockaded, food and medical supplies running low. It is total war against civilians, straight out of Hitler's WW2 playbook. The ukranians dont want the bloodshed Yes, I am sure Kiev was very reluctant to push this.
