What Cable Do I Require?

Recommended Posts

Long story, I set all my audio CDs on fire (garage fire in 2009) and had them backed up onto an iPod. To cut a long story short last year I smashed the ipod to smithereens replastering and only have the hard drive intact.

I can see ~50 pins over two rows. Would it be as simple as finding a cable to plug into my imac (usb end) and how would I get my files off the other end if not in itunes.

:)

Pick up a 1.8" disk caddy and pop the drive into that?

5 seconds on searching on Amazon comes up with this...

http://www.amazon.co.uk/KingSpec-Mobile-1-8-inch-50-pin-Enclosure/dp/B004T30KP4/ (50 pin mentioned*)

or maybe this

http://www.amazon.co.uk/KingSpec-Mobile-Disk-Enclosure-cable/dp/B003BWNC5E/

edit: *according to a reviewer comment the vendor does reply to enquiries about ordering a case with the correct interface

Be careful with this - I googled the drive make/number you gave and every review I read about the technical specs said it is 68 pin. That didn't sound right.

So I went and googled a few images and it has 50 pins in the images. In which case, the caddy that nuggets suggested sounds like the one to go for - http://www.amazon.co.uk/KingSpec-Mobile-1-8-inch-50-pin-Enclosure/dp/B004T30KP4/

There are cheaper basic USB cable to IDE convertors on Amazon but they mostly seem to be 44 pin and I can't seem to find a 50 pin one. A basic cable will be a few quid cheaper thought.

It looks about right and if not my taste in music has moved on leaps and bounds.

Thanks again TMT. Who needs a help desk when we've got resident techies on HPC.

I'm also thinking that it's time I stopped cooking meth. Out of interest what music have you moved onto? :P
