Guest TheBlueCat
It's hardly Islamic, although some of the funders might be! Quite. It looks more like Barad-dûr to me.
Guest TheBlueCat
Once I viewed a flat and it was a farce Soon turned out it was a shard of glass Blondie?
winkie
To be fair that was some time ago ! I think the main problem is if you have got 50 million to spunk on a flat you want to be where the action is. I dunno how long it takes to get across to it from the west end but I bet it is quite a long time, maybe 40 minutes or so. Maybe instead of a spike on top they should have built a helicopter landing pad. ....Action!!!!.......what type of action?....got 50 million you would not be living hundreds of feet in the air dependant on lifts with no personal outside space....who that rich lives in a house like that? tinker
Not seen them. One thing that would be interesting would be a zipwire from the top floor. If you dropped 1m vertical for every three metres horizontal then that would give you a range of 900m. You could get across the river with that. If you're James Bond. Nabby81
In terms of office space building the thing AND then Network rail etc deciding to upgrade London Bridge station ,which on the Thameslink line for instance means no stops at London Bridge for 4 years I doubt has helped. TwoWolves
Just as the Empire State building became a symbol of the hubris that lead to the great crash so will the shard. It just hasn't happened yet. Still time.
Ulfar
Calling it the shard probably hasn't helped. Anyone who has seen Bad Grandpa will know what I mean.
Neverwhere
The Quataris don't seem to mind losing money. They just want others to see them as rich - Manchester City is an example. That is what happens when you inherit billions of barrels of oil. They just want to be seen as rich and successful - Manchester City is an example. Which begs the question: why aren't they buying up these flats themselves (via proxies) in order to maintain appearances?
