I Wish I'd Never Followed A Link To Zerohedge

Recommended Posts

I followed a link from here (so I hold HPC responsible) and have spent a while reading Zerohedge. Now I'm convinced the world is about to end and my cautious investment strategy is going to result in homelessness and servitude for me and my family unto the tenth generation.

Its true - but you could still - start a business or invent something...who knows where it might take you. Zerohedge is built by analysts for analysts. They convince by data but they will be the first to admit that data analysis does not shape the world. There is something larger out there and the opportunities that exist are made by you not some mythical capex / Foreign Direct Investment spen graph. As a society we have become too reliant on graphs and focus groups etc The best new ideas come from people just wanting to build something they enjoy knowing that others like them (humans!) may enjoy it too. Tell your children that and give them the skills to enable them to do what they enjoy with a view of what the world needs.

Linky? HPC has fostered a cynical perspective on the world for me that needs lashings of doom porn to satiate.

ZH is a useful different perspective.. But I find their cynical US 'trader' focus has its own flaws.. It verges on the paranoid at times...

Alpha vile has a much more balanced coverage I find..

Warning: Believing what you read on ZH can seriously damage your wealth

What's scary is when you see a link from a 'mainstream' commentator.

That really freaks me out.

There are some extreme posters on there-( unlike here of course where we are all balanced and objective :D ) But I have found a lot of their analysis to be spot on- and often well ahead of the curve.

Take China for example- Zerohedge was deeply skeptical on china back in the days when 'decoupling' was a serious media story-anyone remember 'decoupling'?

What I have really noticed in general though is that the more I read on these 'extreme' sites the more I realize just how encumbered the MSM actually are- I have many times read things on this site that eventually emerge as 'news' months later on the BBC- one good recent example being the meltdown of Universal Credit, which we were discussing at least a month or two before the story 'broke' on the BBC.

I'm not saying that some BBC journo's were unaware of what was going on- I'm sure they were- but the whole thing is so ridden with political correctness that it took far too long for the story to air.

I like Zero Cred but only as part of a balanced diet.

Every time I visit Zero Hedge I hope that some hacker with a sense of humor has changed the tagline to the more appropriate "Even a stopped clock is right twice a day".

I suspect the regular readers might not take it as a joke, and consider it a sign of impending financial apocolypse - plus ca change :D

Look on the bright side. At least if we all die in some apocalyptic event, Tony Blair, Cameron and all the other crappy people of the world go down too.
