Isreal Moving To Ban The Word "nazi"

Israel moves to ban the word ‘Nazi’ and other references to the Third Reich other than for education purposes

Calling someone a a Nazi could lead to jail sentence and £20,000 fine

Use of Star of David in context of Holocaust would be banned

Bill has reached first reading, still has two more readings to become law

Attempts on similar bill were shot down years ago on free speech grounds

Books next?

If you call someone in the context of educating them is that still going to be an offence?

Peculiar really! I always think of Hitler, as the "Inadvertent Father of Israel".

Yehuda Weinstein has got it right, and I hope his view prevails.

In Germany, the distribution of Nazi propaganda (defined as posters, films, books etc. produced by the actual NSDAP and its supporters, not material promoting the far right published post-war) and "Holocaust denial" is illegal, but that is the limit of it. IMO the only person to actually have been prosecuted for Holocaust denial was David Irving. Hopefully in a couple of generations' time, even that will no longer be necessary. But making a criminal offence of uttering specific words, regardless of context, is going way too far and risks making martyrs out of people who did something silly in the heat of a moment.

More than that

What are they afraid of?

If this could actually work, then why not ban words like rape, murder & torture? The crime figures would drop dramatically!

Are we now so afraid of words they have to be banned?

You can't ban ideas.

They are trying to do, exactly what the Nazis tried to do, what's next ......?

well they are completely WRONG on this.

papering over the cracks, re-writing hisory and pretending it never existed is totally the wrong approach.

we should NEVER forget how utterly horrible people with fanatical ideas can be toward each other.

reverse psychology in it's own way is equally abhorrent.

trying to enforce utopianism is just as bad(and actially just as fanatical in it's own way)

......and IMHO an attempt to FORCE utopianism on peole is very likely to promote a backlash and actually CREATE another hitler.

..the moral of the story the the straw's, millibands, soros etc is don't push your luck.

there IS hitler on steroids lurking in the undergrowth if pushed too far.

and tis is most certainly not anti semitic or whatever label they try to push.

sometimes even your closest friends have the unfortunate duty to tell you that your breath smells or you have a bit of a case of BO.

it's not meant to be derogatory..it's for your own good.

I suspect the Nazis thought this is what they were doing, for themselves at least...
