Shops Sold More At Xmas

Recommended Posts

If you go back through HPC for the last 5 years you'll find the same pattern: Half way through december we get told that it's the worst festive trading ever. End of January we get told it was a record year.

Bizarre, but that's life.

Yeah, but what I was highlighting was that this news is being trumpeted as being wonderful, but it's just the norm. Consumer spending increases before Christmas and it always has done (for as long as it's been commercialised anyway) because people buy stuff to give to other people and consume large amounts of food and drink.

Basically the media start reporting in early Dec that retail figures are woeful and that this has resulted in amazing bargains to be had, so all their viewers/readers would be fools not to immediately rush to the shops and do their patriotic consumer duty.

Works like a charm, every time.

The public really are idiots. <_<
