Landlord Unhappy About Newham Licensing Scheme

One of the replies says this;

We are seen as cash cows by local authorities and this was one of the things that I warned about in my book which was published last May.It is not about raising standards it is about raising funds to employ more officers and in my opinion it is an abuse of power and at odds with the Housing Act 2004 where these powers were granted to be used in specific circumstances in "selected" areas. It makes me very angry and I hope that Government will sanction authorities for doing this.

The irony! Now they know how most tenants feel! Pot meet kettle.

A waste of time and money, 25 Sep 2013 By deborah taylor - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What is this?) This review is from: Property For Rent - Investing in the UK: Will You Survive the Mayhem?: 1 (Paperback) It has no direction as a book and seems to be a cut and paste of other peoples views. It poses few questions and answers even less.

I find her ideas to reform welfare quite amusing. Looks to me like she's calling for cuts to LHA/housing benefit to be the last thing government should cut back on in welfare reform. And that payments to landlords being the absolute priority (first post on this thread), to be paid direct to landlords. Claimants can have a little bit of pocket money, and a card to use in supermarkets, after she's got her rent, to support the housing portfolio she has. http://www.propertyt...y-t-9807-5.html

But why should I give £500 to the council for them to decide whether I am a fit and proper person to rent out my house?

It should be £500 a year license fee for HMOs, to help fund annual safety inspections. I'm all for a Gov shakedown on the sector.
