A New Set Of Nimbys

Recommended Posts

Not seen this set of NIMBys before.

http://www.northantstelegraph.co.uk/news/top-stories/protests-over-homes-plans-in-irchester-and-bozeat-1-5797732

Bozeat and Irchester residents are fighting plans to build houses in their villages.

The residents of Bozeat are campaigning against plans to build 36 homes outside the village boundary, which they say is against the adopted local plan for Wellingborough, with the potential for more homes to be built in 2016 and onwards.

They should be ashamed of themselves.

Yes the usual suspects again, grey army on parade.

If only the people these new houses were designed for had the luxury of not working and having the time to protest in the middle of the week we could have balance.

At least when the retirement age goes up we will see an end to this nimby nonsense, work till you drop and all that.

Would land value tax sort the nimbys? Village as is has £x LVT. After the 36 homes have been built, LVT drops to reflect the lower property values.

Usual sea of grey + 2 gran kids.

In 2 decades time the grandchildren will probably want to buy a house. Will be very expensive for them unless the demand is met.

Yes of course it would because it would create a market driven response rather than a monopoly driven response

The concept of nimbyism is hardly new, it is fundamentally the cornerstone of the Norman Conquests and moving forward the Enclosures, as soon as you remove the economic rent aspect you create a market, Nimbys just as there forefathers wouldnt give a toss if their ability to impose privately collected state imposed tithes were removed, theyd just move and pay the higher value for the benefit they receive. Todays Nimbys as throughout history want the benefit bequeathed by state violence to be privately and personally accrued which is completely rational

The mild difficulty comes in assessing the tithe the state imposes on private landowners behalf because whilst some are tangible some are intangible.

However we have for decades/millenia been living under an imposed system where rather than the state imposing a tithe on monopolies theyve actually been rewarding that Monopoly with the inevitable result of Capital flowing into that unproductive reward
